Sling DVR
Sling’s DVR service is in the cloud, so you can watch your Sling recordings from any supported device, anywhere in the U.S. without extra equipment. Recording content to DVR allows you to watch your favorites whenever you want and fast forward through commercials.
You can record as many shows, movies, or games as you want at the same time until your storage is full, and upgrade your account if you need more space.
If you record anything you gained access to with a Sling subscription, that content will be saved for 9 months, even if you take a break. When you start a new subscription, previously recorded content will be available in your DVR. When recordings are about to expire, you’ll get a warning so you can set up a new recording.
Freestream DVR
Freestream viewers with a Sling account can save 10 hours of content to their DVR for free.
DVR Free

Set up a recording
Select any upcoming or live content you want to save to your DVR, then select Record.
For shows and series, you’ll have the option to set up future recordings as well.
- Select Record all episodes to record all upcoming showings of the selected show, including old episodes that air again. We won’t save duplicate episodes to the DVR.
- Select Record new episodes to skip reruns and only record newly released episodes.
View scheduled recordings
To check on your upcoming recordings, visit the DVR tab on your sling app, then select SCHEDULED.
From here you can view and manage all the upcoming programs that will be saved to your DVR.
Manage recordings
Select DVR, then select RECORDINGS.
Select any of your recorded programs to see the options available. You can:
- Modify your Recording options
- Delete all recordings of a series
- Delete individual recordings
- Lock recordings to prevent them from being removed if you’re out of space.
- Unlimited DVR subscribers won’t run out of space, so locking isn’t available.
- Recordings are still time bound and can only be saved for 9 months. We’ll label recordings that are about to expire so you can plan ahead.
View DVR space
Visit the DVR tab on your Sling app and select Recordings. A progress bar at the top of the page will show how much DVR space has been used, and how much is available.
- DVR space is per Sling account, not per user. A grey portion of the progress bar will show how much space is used by other profiles on your account.
If you upgraded to Unlimited DVR you won’t see a progress bar, because the limit does not exist.
FAQs
If you remove Unlimited DVR:
If you remove Unlimited DVR from your account and you have used more than 50 hours of storage, recordings will automatically be deleted from oldest to newest until your recordings fit into the 50 hours of storage that comes with a Sling subscription.
If you cancel your Sling TV subscription:
Content you recorded with a Sling subscription will be unavailable - however, we’ll save it for you in case you resubscribe. When you have an active short-term pass subscription or recurring monthly subscription, you’ll see the recording in your DVR library
If you’ve recorded more than 10 hours of Freestream programming, older recordings will be deleted until they fit into the 10 hours of storage available with a Freestream account.
When there’s no more room to save new content, we’ll make room by deleting the oldest recordings in your DVR library.
To prevent favorite recordings from being deleted when you run out of space, you can lock them.
You can also manage your recordings manually. To delete recordings, visit the DVR tab in your Sling app then select Recordings. Select any recording you’re ready to delete, then you can choose Delete to remove individual recordings or Delete all to remove a whole series.
To prevent certain recordings from being deleted when you run out of space, you can lock them. From the DVR tab, select anything you’ve previously recorded, then select LOCK.
Unlimited DVR subscribers don’t need to worry about locking content, you won’t run out of space, so recordings won’t be deleted to make space.
Remember, all recordings expire after 9 months, and locking them won’t extend their lifespan. If you want them to last even longer, set up a new recording. We’ll label your recordings starting 30 days before they expire to help you plan ahead.
Sling's DVR automatically deletes recordings after 9 months to ensure a reliable and efficient experience for all users. While the expiration period cannot be extended, we’ll notify you 30 days in advance when a recording is nearing its expiration so you can rewatch it or set up a new recording before it’s removed.
You are probably watching live TV or on demand content with ads. While you can’t fast forward through live TV, you can fast forward through recordings. If you want to fast forward, record the program first, then watch it from your DVR library.
Yes. Sling Blue, Sling Select, and Sling Orange & Blue include live streaming of some local channels, but access depends on where you live. You can record local channels that are available in your guide with Sling DVR.
If for some reason we didn’t capture a recording you expected, you might be able to watch it on demand. Search for the channel your program was on, then check its On demand list.
You can also check the REPLAYS tab to see if your program is available to watch anytime and the SCHEDULED tab to see if the program hasn’t aired yet.
There are a few channels and situations that can’t be recorded. For example, you can’t record Pay-Per-View content. If you’re watching one of the following channels, the option to record won’t be available:
- Local Now
- ESPN3
- ACC Network Extra
- SEC Network+
- Pluto Channels
