The best “Watch Party” service for watching TV with friends
Learn more about Sling Watch Party - TV together from anywhere!
Watching TV together with friends and family is the ultimate intersection of entertainment and socialization. But in today’s world, it’s not always possible – social distancing, busy schedules and long-distance friendships mean that sitting together on the same couch to watch TV isn’t an option. That’s why some streaming services such as Sling, Netflix and Amazon Prime have introduced watch party – a way to virtually watch content online with your friends and family, as if you were all together in the same room.
When you launch into Watch Party on Sling, you get a different experience than with the watch party services from other streaming apps. Let’s take a quick look at the features included in Sling Watch Party and compare the experience to some of the other streaming services so you can get the most bang for your proverbial buck and start watching TV online with friends.
Invite your friends and family to watch TV – from anywhere in the US
It’s time to sync up your schedules and start a group text, because Sling Watch Party is available in all 50 states! Hosts can invite up to 3 of their friends to join them and watch both live and on-demand content on any channel in their lineup*. Even if your friends don’t subscribe to that channel, they’ll still be able to watch it for the duration of your hosted party. You can also invite guests who aren’t Sling customers yet! Friends and family can join 3 Sling Watch Parties for free.
*Watch Party is only available for channels included in Sling Orange, Sling Blue or Extras services. Watch Parties are not currently available for local channels (NBC and FOX), rentals, Pay-Per-View events, Premium or standalone channels or programming recorded on Cloud DVR. Standard regional blackouts apply.
Like Sling, other services also make their watch party feature available from wherever their subscribers live. For example, Netflix Party (which is actually hosted by an outside company, not by Netflix itself) is available in every country that has Netflix – the catch is you have to make sure that the title you want to watch is also available in each country. The Amazon Prime Watch Party Beta is only currently available to Amazon Prime customers within the US, and gives access to all Amazon Prime video content. Hulu’s new Watch Party service is available to all Hulu subscribers, but does not include live TV content or premiums.
Video chat while you watch
We all have that one friend who reacts physically to what’s happening on the screen, from bizarre facial expressions to fist pumps and facepalms. Invite them to a Sling Watch Party to get them on video chat so you won’t miss a single gesture.
Unlike other watch party services that only allow you to type messages out to your friends, Sling puts you in a side-by-side video chat so you can watch your show and your friends at the same time.
Because Sling Watch Party is hosted on desktop browser, you won’t need any additional equipment in order to watch and chat with your friends. Just permit access to your laptop camera and microphone and you’re set to go. It’s almost as easy as inviting your friends over to your living room (some might say it’s even easier).

Sling Watch Party vs. Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime and more
If you love watching live TV and want to share that experience with your friends, Sling Watch Party is the place for you. It’s the only service that allows live TV content from the top channels like AMC, TNT, CNN and more to be watched together in a streaming party. Invite your friends to watch live sports games, season premieres, awards shows and more all while virtually hanging out.
We all know how easy it is to customize your channel lineup on Sling, which means there’s a huge range of shows and movies available to watch with your friends and family. Amazon Prime Watch Party only allows access to on-demand content included in the Amazon Prime library, and even Hulu + Live TV customers can still only host a watch party for on-demand content.
Sling Watch Party is also an easy one-stop shop for live video sharing – you don’t have to open any additional windows or use third-party equipment like you do with Netflix Party or Scener. Because of this, Sling Watch Party is currently only available on desktop browser to provide the best and most seamless experience.
Never sacrifice your social hour again – virtually watch the best live TV on Sling Watch Party and hang out with friends and family no matter what the distance.
