Buffering and internet issues
Sling needs a reliable internet connection of at least 3 Mbps for a single stream.
For a great experience watching on multiple devices, an internet speed of 25 Mbps is recommended. Check your internet speed.
If your video is lagging, freezing, or buffering, there’s a few things you can try:
Hardwire your device
- If it’s possible, connect your device directly to the internet with an ethernet cable, rather than using wifi.
Reset your router and modem
- Unplug the device power cord for at least 10 seconds, then plug it back in
- If your modem and router are separate devices, make sure to unplug both.
- Wait 1-2 minutes for the system to reset
- Relaunch Sling
Disconnect any VPNs
- VPNs can cause Sling to think you’re watching from beyond our service area, and might accidentally block your streaming. Disconnect your VPN and try again.
Use fewer devices
- Each device connected to your internet takes a portion of the bandwidth. Turning off internet connected devices that you aren’t using could improve your internet speed.
Contact your internet provider
- If your internet speeds are lower than recommended even after trying the other steps, you may need to upgrade your internet service.
