When Are the Other Presidential Debates?
As of this writing, the Sep. 10 is the only debate that the two parties have agreed to thus far (Harris’ campaign communications director told CBS News she’d like to do a second debate in October, while Trump has claimed he’d like a total of three debates). However, Vice Presidential candidates JD Vance and Tim Walz have agreed to a vice presidential debate in New York City on Tue., Oct. 1. That debate will be moderated by CBS Evening News anchor Nora O’Donnell and Face the Nation anchor Margaret Brennan.
What Are the Rules For the Presidential Debate?
After a bit of back-and-forth over muting the microphones, both candidates agreed to leave mics off while the other is speaking. Other rules are largely the same as those in the first debate between Trump and President Biden. According to ABC News, there will be a two-minute closing statement (Trump won the coin toss and elected to go last), but no opening statement. ABC says that, “each candidate will be allotted two minutes to answer each question with a two-minute rebuttal, and an additional minute for a follow-up, clarification, or response.” Campaign staff will not be able to interact with candidates during the two commercial breaks.
