Original story below:

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup has an expanded field, and features some of the biggest soccer clubs across the globe. The competition swelled to 32 teams and FIFA, the world's governing body, is hoping to use this competition as a testing ground for next year's World Cup in the US. Last summer’s Copa America had plenty of issues, from playing conditions on the field to logistics within the stadium, especially during the Final between Argentina and Colombia.

The competition has also yielded some criticism from players’ unions across the world, due to the amount of games players are expected to play in a calendar year across all competitions for club and country. Though some of the biggest clubs will be at the tournament, not all the biggest names will be playing. Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi and Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe are set to play in front of fans in the US, but Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal are just a couple of names that won’t be participating.

Here is what you need to know going into the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
