How to watch Houston Texans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars in London with Sling

Watch this week 6 AFC South showdown from London with Sling Select or Sling Blue.

It’s difficult to remember a Week 6 game with higher stakes than the Jaguars-Texans clash in London on Sunday, October 18 (9:30 AM ET on NFL Network). The Jaguars are 4-1, own a division-best +53 point differential, and, in last Sunday’s London game, won arguably the greatest international game in league history, a 19-17 walk-off win against the Philadelphia Eagles in Tottenham, just last week. They’ll face a desperate Houston Texans team that finally got its first win of the NFL season with a 26-3 beatdown of the lowly Tennessee Titans. With a ridiculously talented defense and the return of several key starters on offense, the Texans were a sexy Super Bowl darkhorse in the preseason, but their inability to finish has haunted them; three of their four losses were by less than a score.

Although it’s only mid-October, a second-straight London win for the Jaguars all but closes the door on an AFC South championship for the Texans. Houston squandered any breathing room with their slow start, and a defense as loaded as theirs should not be surrendering over 30 points, as they already did twice this season. But there’s good cause for hope. First, the Texans just acquired former Ohio State star receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., a former No. 4 overall pick who floundered in his first two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. Houston QB C.J. Stroud and Harrison Jr. were teammates at OSU, and Harrison Jr. is still young enough to turn his career around. Additionally, the Texans have historically dominated the matchup against the Jaguars, including a stunning 19-point second half comeback last year that spurred their postseason run.

However, it’s no mystery why Jacksonville is an early -2.5 point favorite. After a bumpy start to his career, Trevor Lawrence is finally looking like the prince who was promised. His 67 percent completion percentage is a career high, as is his 63.9 QBR. Parker Washington is an explosive play waiting to happen; he already has 4 touchdowns and is averaging an eye-popping 16 yards per catch. And on defense, the Jaguars are tops in rushing yards allowed (63.8 per game) and second in scoring (14 per game).

On paper, the Jags run away with this one, especially since they won’t have to acclimate to the time change. But you never know how it will go in rivalry games between teams who play each other twice a year, especially one with such high stakes. With respect to the Colts and Titans, this is a two team race in the AFC South, and the Texans know their backs are against the wall. If Houston can get out to an early lead, expect their voracious pass rush to attack Lawrence relentlessly and try to force the mistakes he’s been prone to over the first part of his career. But as we saw in their 35-6 humiliation of the New England Patriots, if Jacksonville starts hot, their explosive offense and bend-but-don’t-break defense can quickly turn the game into a thrashing, to borrow a term familiar to English football fans.

Who are the key players to watch?

Jacksonville: Trevor Lawrence (QB) Lawrence is the straw that stirs Jacksonville's 4-1 start, and under second-year head coach Liam Coen, he's playing steady, mistake-averse football. Through five games, T-Law is completing about 67% of his throws with 10 touchdowns against just 3 interceptions and a 106.8 passer rating. More telling than the raw numbers is his knack for the moment: in the Week 5 London win over Philadelphia he threw for 331 yards and two scores — both to Parker Washington, including a 27-yard strike late in the fourth that put Jacksonville in position to win with Cam Little's walk-off kick. He did all this despite 13 team penalties and two Jalen Carter sacks, underscoring his composure when things get messy. Against a Houston defense built to punish mistakes, Lawrence's ball security is the single biggest swing factor in this game.

Houston: Will Anderson Jr. (EDGE) If anyone can crack that formula, it's Anderson, who has turned into the most disruptive defender in football. He leads the entire NFL with 7.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss five weeks in, headlined by a three-sack eruption in the Week 5 rout of Tennessee. He's the only player with multiple 2.5-plus-sack games this season, and his current pace (25.5 sacks over 17 games) would top Myles Garrett's single-season record. PFF grades him the No. 1 edge defender in the league. Anderson and the Houston pass rushers are Houston's best — maybe only — path to the upset.
