Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles on ‘Monday Night Football’: How to watch with Sling
NFC East rivals collide as the Cowboys visit the Eagles on ‘Monday Night Football’. Watch with Sling Essentials or Orange.
A 2-4 record heading into Week 7 is far from ideal. But in the surprisingly poor NFC East – which went a collective 0-6-2 across weeks 5-6, making it the first division ever to go two consecutive weeks with zero wins – the 2-4 Philadelphia Eagles and 2-4 Dallas Cowboys are very much in the playoff hunt. The NFC East may be ugly, but someone has to win it.

There’s a dark cloud hanging over this game that has nothing to do with anything on the field. Earlier this week, the Eagles announced that star QB Jalen Hurts will miss the remainder of the season due to potentially life-threatening blood clots. It’s a very scary situation that's been exacerbated by questions surrounding the Eagles’ handling of the injury. Regardless, the Eagles will now lean on backup Tanner McKee, a 2023 6th round pick who will be making just his fourth career start. It hasn’t helped that running back Saquon Barkley has been in-and-out of the lineup with an injury (he’s expected to play on Monday), or that the Eagles rank 27th in total yards per game, surrendering 363.8 yards a game.
That unit will be pressed on Monday night against Dallas. The Cowboys are currently sixth in passing yards per game and QB Dak Presscot is fourth in passing yards, with 10 TDs against 5 interceptions. Dak and the passing game are rolling, but once again, the Cowboys are struggling mightily on the defensive side of the ball. Dallas’ D is 30th in yards per game, and dead last in rushing yards at 149.8ypg.
In theory, the Eagles and Barkley should be able to exploit this weakness, but with an unproven QB under center, it might instead be a momentum-changing game for the struggling defense. Philly’s defense has its own issues, as they currently rank 27th in total yards, just three spots higher than the Cowboys. The home crowd might be the Eagles’ biggest advantage, but after such a dispiriting week, it’s easy to imagine the uglier side of Philly’s fans coming out. The NFC East is there for the taking and if Dallas can’t use a game like this to seize it, it’s hard to imagine them making noise even if they do make the playoffs.
Players to watch
Dallas: Dak Prescott (QB)
Prescott is the key ingredient for a 2-4 Dallas team whose offense is its clear strength and whose defense is its clear problem. He's quietly having a strong individual year — PFF's No. 6 passing grade, ~66% completions, 1,639 yards, 10 TDs to 5 INTs — and he draws a Philadelphia defense that, while talented up front with Jalen Carter, is surrendering the league's worst yardage differential. The framing writes itself: this is a get-right spot, and if Dallas doesn't beat itself, Prescott's passing volume should move the ball at will. The Cowboys are 4.5-point road favorites largely because of him. His job Monday night is efficiency and ball security against a reeling rival.
Philadelphia: Saquon Barkley (RB)
With Jalen Hurts out for the season and Tanner McKee stepping in at quarterback, Philadelphia's path to staying competitive runs through Barkley. The 2024 Offensive Player of the Year hasn't had his usual season — just 182 rushing yards on 36 carries with no touchdowns, hampered by injuries — but he's still averaging 5.1 yards per carry and remains a game-breaker. A backup quarterback needs a run game to lean on, and the Eagles will need Barkley to carry the load to control tempo and keep Prescott off the field. If he can't get going behind a struggling offense, Philadelphia's four-game skid likely becomes five.
