WNBA All-Star Game Preview and How to Watch With Sling
Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier captain the 2025 WNBA All-Star teams. Here's a preview of the game and All-Star weekend, plus how to watch live with Sling.
It’s hard to believe the 2025 WNBA season is already halfway through. If there’s a narrative for the first half of this season, it would be the surprises and drama. While it’s not entirely shocking to see the Minnesota Lynx atop the standings, the Phoenix Mercury (15-6), Seattle Storm (13-9), and Atlanta Dream (12-9) have all overperformed. Despite Caitlin Clark missing time with injury, the Indiana Fever won the Commissioner's Cup and look vastly improved in Clark’s sophomore season. And at 10-11, perennial contenders the Las Vegas Aces have had a disappointing start to their season.

As for the drama, there’s been plenty on and off the court. For whatever reason, Caitlin Clark continues to draw the ire of rivals on opposing teams, with the confrontations occasionally turning physical. But the even bigger beef has been with the referees. From coaches like Golden State’s Natalie Nakase and Indiana’s Stephanie White to star players like Angel Reese and Kelsey Plum, the performance and inconsistency of refs has been a major storyline in the 2025 WNBA season.
Both refs and players will get a chance to regroup during the WNBA All-Star break, which begins Thursday, July 17 and continues through Monday, July 21. Of course, plenty of star players won’t have a full break, as they’ll be at WNBA All-Star Weekend at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Here’s a preview of the festivities, which culminate in the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday, July 19.

Similar to the NBA format, the leading vote-getters in the WNBA All-Star voting, reigning Rookie of the Year, Indiana’s Caitlin Clark, and Defensive Player of the Year, Minnesota’s Napheesa Collier, were selected as team captains of their respective All-Star teams. As captains, they alternated picks in the All-Star Draft, with Clark choosing teammate Aliyah Boston with her top pick, and Collier selecting Breanna Stewart. Here’s a look at the full All-Star rosters:
Team Clark
Aliyah Boston, Indiana
Sabrina Ionescu, New York
A’ja Wilson, Las Vegas
Satou Sabally, Phoenix
Kelsey Mitchell, Indiana
Gabby Williams, Seattle
Sonia Citron, Washington
Kiki Iriafen, Washington
Jackie Young, Las Vegas
Kayla Thornton, Golden State
Team Collier
Breanna Stewart, New York
Allisha Gray, Atlanta
Nneka Ogwumike, Seattle
Paige Bueckers, Dallas
Courtney Williams, Minnesota
Skylar Diggins, Seattle
Angel Reese, Chicago
Alyssa Thomas, Phoenix
Kelsey Plum, Los Angeles
Rhyne Howard, Atlanta
During the draft, Clark and Collier traded head coaches, who were selected based on their team’s records. The trade means that Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve will lead Collier’s team, while Sandy Brondello of the New York Liberty will head up Team Clark.
What are the Other WNBA All-Star Events?
In addition to the All-Star Game on Saturday, ESPN will air the 3-Point Contest and Skills Challenge on Friday, July 18 at 8pm. The Skills Challenge will feature defending champion Allisha Gray of the Atlanta Dream, along with Natasha Cloud of the New York Liberty, Skylar Diggins and Erica Wheeler of the Seattle Storm, and Courtney Williams of the Minnesota Lynx. The 3-Point Contest will also feature Gray (who won both events last year), alongside Caitlin Clark, Sonia Citron of the Washington Mystics, Kelsey Plum of the Los Angeles Sparks, and Sabrina Ionescu of the Liberty, who set a WNBA record in the 2023 3-Point Contest and famously lost narrowly to Steph Curry in the NBA All-Star Game two years ago.
What is the remaining WNBA schedule?
The league returns from All-Star break on Tuesday, July 22 with a supersized night of action on ESPN and ESPN3. 10 of the league’s 13 teams will be playing, beginning with the Los Angeles Sparks taking on the Washington Mystics at 7:30pm ET on ESPN3.
After that, the WNBA resumes its regular season schedule, with Friday night double-headers on ION – available for free on Sling with Sling Freestream – and the remaining games split among the WNBA’s other broadcast partners (click here for more information on watching the WNBA with Sling).
Other key dates to mark on your calendar include the trade deadline on Aug. 7, the end of the regular season on Sep. 11, and the start of the 2025 WNBA Playoffs, which begin on Sep. 14.
