Oklahoma City vs. Phoenix Series Preview: Things to Watch
https://youtu.be/llVb-GMf-_g?si=wJkrtgGdklQIrUo5
The top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder begin their quest for a second-straight championship as they take on the Phoenix Suns in the First Round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs. Phoenix punched their playoff ticket by defeating the Golden State Warriors in the final Play-In game, a massive achievement considering their disappointing Play-In loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday and the low expectations of a rebuilding team under first year head coach Jordan Ott.
Jalen Green was the catalyst in Phoenix’s win over Golden State, pouring in 36 points, including eight 3-pointers. That’s a recipe that the Suns will look to replicate against the Thunder, who, despite being one of the best defensive teams in the NBA, ranked just 25th in opponent 3-point percentage. With Phoenix setting a new franchise mark for most 3-pointers in a season (1,210), the Suns will need to hit their long-balls if they want to steal a game or two in OKC.
Nonetheless, a Suns series victory would represent one of the biggest upsets in NBA history. Even with all of their injury issues – which continue in the Playoffs, as Chet Holmgren and Jaylin Williams are both listed as questionable for Game 1 – Oklahoma City finished with a league-best 64-18 record. Reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is expected to take home his second-straight MVP honor, and the Thunder’s team defense is second to none. Forget this series; if OKC doesn’t make it to at least the Conference Finals, something will have gone seriously wrong.
Series Odds and Prediction

On Saturday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook has the odds of Oklahoma City advancing listed at -3000, by far the best odds of any first round series. If you’re feeling like playing the longshot, a bet on Phoenix to win the series would pay out $130 on a $10 bet. A better bet might be the series over/under, which DraftKings has at +255 if the Suns can force a Game 6.
Prediction: Thunder in five.
