Los Angeles Lakers Preview
Lakers fans were undoubtedly concerned when, just before the season started, LeBron James was ruled out for several weeks with a back injury. It turned out fans had nothing to worry about. The Lakers are off to a hot start, having lost only three games since the season began, and had a very impressive win over Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs. With LeBron nearing his return, the Lakers can continue their eye-popping early season results with a win against the Thunder, who pose their biggest test yet.
Surprisingly, the Lakers success has been fueled not only by Luka Dončić but Austin Reeves. In a three-game stretch in late October, Reeves dropped 51 points, 41 points, and nailed a buzzer beater to win the game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. While Reeves has been limited with an injury over the past few games, he stands to make nearly $250 million with the Lakers next summer. Obviously there's an entire season to be played before we get to that point, but Reeves is proving that the Lakers are much more than just the Luka and LeBron show.
Oklahoma City Thunder Preview
Following their first championship since moving to Oklahoma City, the 2025 season could not have gotten off to a better start for the Thunder. At 11-1, the Thunder have the best record in the NBA and reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continues to look like one of the best players in the league as he averages more than 30 points per game.
Just how hot is the Thunder right now? According to ESPN, their 11-1 record is identical to legendary teams like the ‘71 Bucks, the ‘84 Celtics, and the 2001 Lakers. The only caveat? Two of those three teams did not win the championship.
