When it comes to the 2023 Women’s Final Four® matchup between Iowa and South Carolina, there’s plenty to talk about. It’s no slight to LSU and Virginia Tech, but the battle between Lisa Bluder’s Hawkeyes and Dawn Staley’s Gamecocks is the main event on Friday night.

South Carolina has won 42 straight games, and is on a quest to become back-to-back National Champions. Leading the way for SC is Senior Aliyah Boston. The 2022 Player of the Year and Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament is still leader of the team, but she has seen a dip in points, rebounds, and steals from a year ago. Boston erupted for 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists in the Gamecocks Elite Eight ® win over Maryland. The emergence of Zia Cooke has also given Staley’s group more options offensively, as the Senior guard averages 16-points per game.

On the other side, we will be watching one of the most electric players in basketball; Iowa’s Caitlin Clark. In the Hawkeye’s Elite Eight ® matchup over Louisville, Clark went off for the first 40-point triple double in NCAA Tournament History – Men’s or Women’s. The final tally: A whopping 41 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds. Through four tournament games, Clark has either scored or assisted on 62% of Iowa’s points. She will need her teammates to keep hitting shots so they can punish opponents for throwing double and triple-teams her way. And when it comes to her teammates, they’ve started over 90(!) games together, so they’re a tight group. But, in the end, it will fall on the shoulders of the West Des Moines native.

Despite being 11.5 point underdogs, you can’t count Iowa out of this game because of the sheer brilliance of Caitlin Clark. Despite being the highest scoring team in the nation, Iowa do have struggles defensively. In their losses this season, they’ve given up 84, 86, 94, 90, 87 and 96 points. This is a concern when you realize South Carolina boasts a top five scoring offense and defense. All eyes will be on Clark, so be sure to catch the game on ESPN with Sling Orange.
