While the Boilermakers may have ceded their preseason No. 1 ranking to Houston, they still look like one of the top teams in the country. That's especially clear given that All-American forward Trey Kaufman-Renn has yet to see action this season and Purdue has won both of their first two games by double digits. The big surprise has been freshman forward Jack Benter, who's been averaging 11 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists through the first two games.
Best of all for Purdue, Kaufman-Renn is expected to make his season debut against Alabama. The 6 '9” forward averaged over 20 points per game last season and had 26 points and eight rebounds last November in his team's 87-78 victory over Alabama. While the season is still early, Matt Painter’s team is looking as good as promised.

Alabama was already tapped to be one of the contenders for this year's Final Four, and they nabbed their first signature win of the season when they pulled off an upset road win over No. 5 St. John's. The victory was largely due to the play of Alabama guards Labaron Philon Jr. and Aden Holloway, who are both averaging over 20 points per game.
Unlike Purdue's half court offense, Alabama likes to push the tempo. With the return of Kaufman-Renn, we'll see if Purdue's dominant big men can slow down the tempo and control the pace of the game. Alabama also excels at rebounding, especially Amari Allen, who's averaging 8.5 rebounds per game to start the season. It also helps that the Crimson Tide will be playing at what's sure to be a raucous Coleman Coliseum. Although this game may not mean much by the time we get to March, it should provide a fascinating litmus test for both teams' potential as the season continues to get rolling.
What are the Odds?
According to DraftKings, Alabama are currently 3.5 point favorites over Purdue. The over-under line is set at 173.5.
