North Carolina Preview

The Tarheels enter their final game of the season against Duke with a 24-6 record, and a No. 17 ranking in the AP Top 25. Since their 71-68 upset win over the Blue Devils a month ago, the Tar Heels have gone 5-2, with their blowout loss to in-state rival NC State on Feb. 18 their most recent loss. North Carolina is currently projected to be a No. 5 or No. 6 seed in the upcoming tournament, and their rematch against top-seeded Duke is an excellent primer for March Madness. If current projections hold, they could be playing the Blue Devils twice in a week; if UNC is the No. 4 seed at the ACC Tournament, they could face their Tobacco Road rivals in the semifinals of that tournament on Friday, March 13. Spooky in more ways than one.

Duke Preview

Despite losing No. 1-overall pick Cooper Flagg after his freshman season a year ago, Duke is having an even better season than 12 months ago. They’re not only projected to claim the No. 1 overall seed at the upcoming NCAA tournament, they’re led by another player who could be selected with the top pick in the next NBA Draft: 6’ 9” forward Cameron Boozer. His 22.6 points per game are seventh best in the nation, and he ranks inside the top 15 in rebounds as well, pulling down 10 per game. He’s even leading the Blue Devils in assists with four per game. The only thing Boozer hasn’t been able to do is beat his archrival UNC, a fact he’s no doubt looking to make up for this weekend and, potentially, in two other tournament games.
