The No. 5 national seed North Carolina Tar Heels punched their ticket to the Men's College World Series finals with an undefeated 3-0 run through their side of the bracket in Omaha. They opened the MCWS with a 6-2 victory over Ole Miss and followed it up with a 5-2 win over No. 16 West Virginia. The Tar Heels then clinched their finals berth by battering West Virginia again in a 12-7 offensive outburst. Before reaching Omaha, North Carolina swept the Chapel Hill Regional by defeating VCU (8-0) and East Carolina twice (7-5, 9-3), and then overcame Southern California in a hard-fought, three-game Super Regional series.
The Tar Heel offense is defined by a highly disciplined approach, boasting a stellar .413 team on-base percentage that excels at drawing walks and applying constant pressure. Their lineup is sparked by star center fielder Owen Hull, who leads the team with a .398 batting average, a 1.121 OPS, and 18 stolen bases. Gavin Gallaher has been a force in the middle of the order; the Gold Glove-winning second baseman hit a crucial tie-breaking triple in the first matchup against West Virginia and went 4-for-5 with four RBIs in the bracket-clinching win. Other essential contributors include shortstop Jake Schaffner, who hits .352 with a team-high 26 stolen bases, and third baseman Cooper Nicholson, who provides the main power surge with a team-leading 16 home runs.
North Carolina's pitching staff is one of the most prolific in college baseball, anchored by their elite right-handed ace Jason DeCaro. DeCaro enters the finals with an 11-2 record, a 2.31 ERA, and 93 strikeouts, having recently delivered 6 2/3 innings of five-hit ball against Ole Miss. The late innings are secured by standout freshman closer Caden Glauber, who boasts a flawless 11-0 record, a 2.17 ERA, a team-high 106 strikeouts, and five saves. Beyond this dominant duo, the Tar Heels get depth from arms like Jackson Rose—who holds a 2.15 ERA and threw 4 1/3 critical scoreless innings of relief against West Virginia—and Walker McDuffie, who has tallied 9 wins and 6 saves out of the bullpen.
Three Players to Watch
Owen Hull (CF) - The true engine of North Carolina's offense, combining an exceptional batting average with the power, patience, and speed needed to constantly stress opposing pitchers, especially when he gets on base.
Jason DeCaro (Starting Pitcher) - Over the 2026 season, DeCaro nearly registered more strikeouts (93) than innings pitched (93.2).
Caden Glauber (Closer) - With a flawless 11-0 record, Glauber slams the door shut in late innings, leading the Tar Heels with 106 strikeouts.

The Oklahoma Sooners navigated a challenging path to the Men's College World Series finals, riding an eight-game winning streak since suffering an early loss in the Atlanta Regional. They rallied to win their regional by defeating The Citadel and taking two consecutive elimination games against Georgia Tech. In the Lawrence Super Regional, Oklahoma swept No. 15 Kansas by scores of 8-1 and 13-2 to punch their ticket to Omaha. At the CWS, the Sooners dominated their side of the bracket with a perfect 3-0 record, shutting out No. 7 Alabama 9-0 before earning back-to-back victories (4-3 and 11-4) over the No. 3 national seed Georgia Bulldogs to secure their finals berth.
The Sooners' offense has caught fire down the stretch, utilizing a massive power surge that includes hitting 43 of their 91 total home runs in their last 16 games. Outfielder Dasan Harris, a former walk-on, has been a breakout star, recently blasting two home runs and a career-high five RBIs in the semifinal win over Georgia. Fellow outfielder Jason Walk is a critical tone-setter at the top of the lineup and also launched two home runs against the Bulldogs. Catcher Deiten Lachance provides a massive right-handed power threat, mashing 16 home runs in his last 29 games—including a blast against Alabama in the CWS opener. Other veterans like designated hitter Trey Gambill and shortstop Jaxon Willits add valuable SEC experience and power to a well-rounded lineup.
On the mound, Oklahoma has found significant momentum after inserting freshmen Xander Mercurius and Nick Wesloski into the starting rotation. Both freshmen delivered excellent performances in their first Omaha starts, combining for 13 innings, 13 strikeouts, and just four earned runs to earn the two victories against Georgia's elite, nation-leading offense. The starting staff is complemented by left-handed ace Cord Rager, while junior right-hander LJ Mercurius serves as a reliable shutdown option out of the bullpen, recently throwing 3 1/3 innings to earn the save that eliminated Georgia.
Three Players to Watch
Dasan Harris (OF) - The heartbeat of the Sooners MCWS run, Harris has smashed three home runs in the past four games, doubling his output for the entire season.
Deiten Lachance (C) - Beyond his work behind the plate, Lachance has also become a human torch for Oklahoma, clocking 16 home runs in his last 29 games.
Nick Wesloski (P) - Although Wesloski has only thrown 29.0 total innings in his freshman season, he’s limited opposing hitters to just a .194 batting average and has 29 strikeouts to just 11 walks.
