The Librarians franchise centers on a secret organization that protects historical and magical artifacts housed at, you guessed it, libraries. The new series centers on Vikram Chamberlain (Callum McGowan), a Librarian from 1847 who suddenly finds himself transported to 2025. Olivia Morris co-stars as Dr. Lysa Pascal, a mathematician, engineer, and physicist who inherits a castle in Belgrade where the Library is secretly housed. According to the show’s official description, “When Vikram returns to his castle in Belgrade, Serbia and discovers that it is now a museum, he inadvertently releases magic across the continent. With the help of a new team of eclectic heroes, including a savant in world history, a scientific genius, and a highly skilled Guardian, Vikram has only six months to clean up the mess he made.” In the show’s first season, the team sets out on a series of adventures that include “a surprise reroute to a manor where Agatha Christie-styled murders take place, a time-travel back to the days of King Arthur at Camelot and even an encounter with the first-ever vampire.”
The Librarians: The Next Chapter was co-created by showrunner Dean Devlin, best known for Independence Day and the SYFY series The Ark. A second season has already been announced and will feature guest appearances from Dominic Monaghan (Lost, The Lord of the Rings) and Jeremy Swift (Ted Lasso, Downton Abbey) as well as Josh Gates, host of Discovery Channel’s Expedition Unknown, among many other guest stars. It’s scheduled to premiere in 2026, although no official date has yet been announced.

The Librarians franchise launched with a series of films starring Noah Wyle (ER, The Pitt) that premiered on TNT: The Librarian: Quest For the Spear (2004); The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s (2006); and The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice (2008). The series then premiered in 2014 and co-starred Rebecca Romijn (X-Men), Christian Kane (Angel), and John Larroquette (Night Court).
