Just like the plot of the show, it’s time to resume Anne Rice’s Interview With The Vampire.
The hit horror series returns for its second season Sunday, May 12 on AMC and AMC+. The new season – one of our most-anticipated shows of 2024 – moves its focus from New Orleans to Paris, where Louis (an incredible Jacob Anderson) and Claudia (Delainey Hayles, who takes over the role from Bailey Bass) are trying to build a new life following their bloody betrayal of Lestat (Sam Reid). Meanwhile in present time, journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) is unpacking Louis’ shocking revelation about the Vampire Armand, and what their relationship could mean about the stories that Louis relays to him (or withholds from him).

Anne Rice’s Interview With The Vampire Fan Survey
Season one SPOILERS follow
What Was the Best Part of Season One?
- I loved the conflict with Louis’ family. In the movie, they are gone before the story starts. But in the show, we see all that Louis truly lost. It gives a new depth to the idea of what Lestat took from him – or, depending on how you look at it, what Louis was willing to give up. - Amani Chatterton
- The toxic codependency of Louis and Lestat’s relationship was perfectly rendered. Because of Louis’ race and social standing, the power dynamic between the two was always skewed in Lestat’s favor. Yet because he was the one to give him the gift of immortality, you could understand why Louis stuck with Lestat even after he revealed his possessive nature. It speaks volumes about the quality of writing and performances that a show about vampires could expertly replicate the twisted relationship dynamics that are, sadly, all too common in real life. - Mark Schiff
What Was the Best Change From the Movie Version?
- I like that they aged Claudia up slightly. I think in the movie, Claudia was around 10-years-old when she was turned. In the show, I think she is around 14 or 15. It's a difference of 5 years but I think it makes Claudia’s struggles more relatable and allows us to empathize with her more. It takes the character from a child who is growing mentally but not physically to a girl who was on the cusp of womanhood only to have it snatched away. - AC
- Setting the series in contemporary times and reframing the titular interview as a follow-up to Louis and Daniel Molloy’s initial conversation in the ‘70s was a brilliant adaptive choice that improves the narrative in a number of ways. First, it allows an outstanding Eric Bogosian to turn Daniel into a more well-rounded character instead of just a vehicle for Louis’ story. It also creates a new dynamic between him and Louis, as what was once a straightforward interview with a skeptical journalist now has personal stakes for both characters, as well as the element of risk for Daniel. - MS

Which Character Are You Most Excited to See in Season 2?
- Am I crazy if I say Lestat? Like, I know he’s dead (or at least we think he is) but his ghost haunting Louis will be very fun I think. We know Lestat likes to play with his victims. I think our knowledge of his sadism coupled with Louis’ guilt over the situation will give us an even more unhinged Lestat that follows Louis and Claudia through Paris. - AC
- As great as Jacob Anderson is as Louis (and as curious as I am to see how newcomer Delainey Hayles does in the recast Claudia role), I have to go with Armand. The big reveal at the end of the first season that Louis’ servant Rashid was in fact the Vampire Armand (a major character played by Antonio Banderas in the first film) totally worked for me. The fact that Louis calls him – not Lestat – “the love of my life” also gives the show license to further explore the themes of the present-day storyline that center around the murky intersection of memory and our biased personal narratives. - MS
Who is Your Favorite Interview With A Vampire Cast Member?
- Bailey Bass as Claudia was PERFECTION. Her command of a scene and her eyes were so expressive. You could feel every emotion she felt. I loved her style and I am going to miss seeing her in the role but I have really high hopes for Delainey Hayles who is taking over for season 2. Even from the trailers, she has that same power that just gives you goosebumps! - AC
- If I’m being honest, it’s probably Sam Reid as Lestat. The charisma requirements for this character led producers to cast no less than Tom Cruise in the film version, yet Reid imbues his Lestat with the perfect balance of menace and charm. Based on the events at the end of the first season (and in the film), it seems we won’t be getting nearly as much of his character this season, but his specter should linger and lurk over both Louis and the audience in season 2. - MS
Lastly: Paris or New Orleans?
- New Orleans everyday and twice on Sundays! Paris has the history and the art and fashion but New Orleans has a soul to it that cannot be replicated anywhere else. - AC
- This is an impossible choice, like picking between a fresh beignet or baguette. For personal reasons, we’re going with New Orleans, as it's been longer since I visited there than Paris. - MS
