No Sledgehammer, No Problem For 'No Demo Reno'
Hosted by social media personality Jennifer Todryk, the new HGTV show 'No Demo Reno' is more DIY than aspirational.
Among the dozens of interesting nuggets in The New Yorker’s fascinating new feature on HGTV, we learn that the moment a show’s host peers through the hole-in-the-wall they’ve made during demolition is known as the “Here’s Johnny!” shot. HGTV’s newest show—No Demo Reno, which premieres Thursday, March 25 at 8pm ET—will not include any “Here’s Johnny” shots. Instead, the show’s host, popular social media personality Jennifer Todryk, will give homes a major upgrade without any major demolition.

Combining “clever design solutions and cost-saving ideas,” No Demo Reno is more DIY than aspirational, a fitting format for the show’s host. Under her handle The Rambling Redhead, Todryk’s Instagram has over 700,000 followers, where she combines design and home improvement tips with a refreshingly unpretentious look at her family life (a recent post asking where the puppy should pee during a rainstorm is emblematic of her no-frills approach. The puppy, btw, has 110k followers).
Set in her hometown of Dallas-Fort Worth, No Demo Reno finds Todryk focusing on how a series of practical improvements can result in a dramatic overhaul. As someone whose fame has been mostly through the screens of smartphones, it sounds like the chance to team with HGTV to help people improve their homes was a no-brainer for Todryk, even without the “Here’s Johnny!” shot.
"Seeing people’s reactions to their own home after the transformation was amazing," Jenn said in a recent interview. "People are in total, happy disbelief. It's the best feeling ever."
