Unlike the crowded stages of the first couple debates, the Republican debates scheduled for January will include only a handful of candidates. CNN will broadcast the first major debate, which is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 10 from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Held just five days before the Iowa Republican Caucus, the debate will feature just two candidates: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley.
Former president Donald Trump was invited to the debate, but as with the previous debates, he’s skipping it. Instead, Trump will host a town hall that’s scheduled to air on Fox News at the same time as the debate. And although neither Chris Christie nor Vivek Ramaswamy were invited to CNN’s Iowa debate, they could still appear at the other two debates scheduled for later this month: The January 18 debate hosted by ABC News, or CNN’s New Hampshire debate on January 21.

As usual, Iowa is the first state to caucus. The Republican caucus is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 15. Next up is the New Hampshire primary, which takes place on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Following Joe Biden’s crucial win in 2020, South Carolina moved up its Democratic primary to Feb. 3 this year (South Carolina republicans will vote on Feb. 24). Nevada is next up, with the Democratic primary on Feb. 6, followed by the Republican caucus on Feb. 8. And before you know it, we’ll be at Super Tuesday on March 5, which will feature primaries and caucuses in Alabama, Arkansas, Alaska, California, Colorado, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia.
You can watch live results of the primaries and caucuses on MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News, all of which are available with a subscription to Sling Blue.

Following last week’s back-to-back Town Halls with Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis on CNN, Fox News is hosting Town Halls on three consecutive nights. Nikki Haley is first up on Monday, Jan. 8, followed by DeSantis on Tuesday, Jan. 9, and Donald Trump on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Monday and Tuesday’s Town Halls begin at 6pm ET, with Trump’s beginning on Wednesday at 9pm ET. According to The Hill, the Desantis and Haley Town Halls will “focus on women’s issues and be co-moderated by anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum,” while Trump’s Town Hall will “focus on the ‘leading issues’ facing voters ahead of the Iowa caucuses.”
