When Does ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2 Premiere?

Michael C. Hall is back as Dexter Morgan, but he won’t be alone. Season 2 brings back several familiar faces from the Dexter universe while adding an impressive group of newcomers, including Brian Cox and Dan Stevens as two very different killers who may find themselves in Dexter’s orbit.

Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan: No surprises here. Hall returns as Dexter Morgan, the blood-spatter analyst turned serial killer whose particular moral code has been keeping viewers arguing about whether they should root for him since 2006.


Uma Thurman as Charley: After surviving the events of Season 1, Thurman returns as Charley, the highly capable former Special Ops officer who served as Leon Prater’s head of security. With Prater out of the picture, where Charley goes next is one of Season 2’s more intriguing questions.


Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan: Dexter’s son Harrison returns after Season 1 brought father and son back together under some pretty extreme circumstances. Their complicated relationship remains central to Dexter’s latest chapter.


Brian Cox as the New York Ripper: The Succession star joins Season 2 as a notorious serial killer who terrorized New York years ago. He's no longer actively killing, but apparently retirement hasn't mellowed him: the Ripper continues to psychologically torment survivors of his killing spree.


Dan Stevens as the Five Borough Killer: Stevens plays a new killer with a flair for publicity, taunting police with phone calls threatening the murder of innocent New Yorkers and then following through. Think Zodiac Killer for the five boroughs.

Desmond Harrington as Lt. Joey Quinn: Another familiar face from the original Dexter, Harrington returns as Miami Metro detective Joey Quinn.

Gabriel Luna as Ray Ballard/The Sleepy-Eyed Stranger: The Last of Us actor guest stars as Ray Ballard, better known by the considerably creepier nickname the Sleepy-Eyed Stranger. He's another serial killer entering Dexter's increasingly crowded orbit.

The Season 2 cast also includes returning stars Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf and Dominic Fumusa, along with newcomers Bokeem Woodbine and Nona Parker Johnson. Krysten Ritter and Eric Stonestreet also return as special guest stars, reprising their Season 1 roles as killers Mia LaPierre and Al Walker.

What Is the Storyline for ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2?

Dexter Morgan may have survived Season 1, but apparently even serial killers aren't immune to a midlife crisis. Season 2 finds Dexter dealing with worsening eyesight and two very different killers in New York City: the notorious New York Ripper (Brian Cox) and the up-and-coming Five Borough Killer (Dan Stevens).


At the same time, Dexter continues to navigate his complicated relationship with his son Harrison, while Uma Thurman's Charley remains very much in the picture after the events of Season 1.


With dangerous new adversaries entering his orbit and Dexter increasingly embracing who he really is, Season 2 appears ready to push him deeper into New York's criminal underworld.

How Does Season 1 Lead Into ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2?

** Warning: Major Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 spoilers ahead.

Season 1 ends with Leon Prater discovering Dexter's biggest secret: he's the Bay Harbor Butcher. Prater imprisons Dexter in his vault, but Harrison helps his father escape. Dexter ultimately turns the tables on Prater, killing him before making his getaway.

But Prater leaves behind something much more interesting than an empty vault: detailed files on serial killers. Dexter takes several with him, while the NYPD discovers the rest, including a file on the elusive New York Ripper. That discovery sets up Brian Cox's arrival in Season 2.

The finale also leaves Dexter in a very different place emotionally. Rather than continuing to fight against his Dark Passenger, he seems increasingly willing to accept who he is. With Harrison back in his life and a fresh collection of killers on his radar, Dexter certainly isn't lacking for things to do in Season 2.

Will There Be a ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 3?

For now, Dexter's fate beyond Season 2 remains a mystery. Paramount+ has not officially renewed Dexter: Resurrection for Season 3, but there are plenty of reasons for fans to be optimistic.

Paramount continues to describe Resurrection as an ongoing series, and the Dexter franchise remains very much alive 20 years after the original show's debut. For now, we'll have to see what Season 2 has in store for Dexter Morgan before we start sharpening our knives for another season.
