Sling TV Unleashes New Features For Football Fanatics
Your favorite football team will look better than ever this season…at least when you use these new features to watch their games on Sling TV.
In the offseason, every football team does their best to improve upon the results from last year (with one notable exception). At Sling TV, we share that philosophy: We’re always looking for ways to improve the experience of our users. With the college football season set to kick off this weekend, we’re thrilled to announce a number of product improvements that our subscribers will love.
Note: Some features may not yet be live on all devices.
Live Sports Scores

Building on the Sports Scores functionality we delivered for March Madness, Sports Scores will be easier to use, more interesting to look at, and more informative.
Viewers can still access real-time scores to help them find the most exciting games to watch, but they can now do it across all the major leagues Sling carries, including NCAA football and basketball, NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB. We are adding team records, seeding, and ranking (when relevant), in addition to quick game information we already offered, including start times, game clocks, live scores, and the network the game is on.
Sports Scores is built right into the home screen and can be accessed right next to the video player, so viewers won’t need to hop around the app to find the games they want to watch or the score updates they need.
Apple In-App Purchases
Apple In-app purchasing provides users a convenient and safe commerce and payment system, making it easy for people to manage their purchases and subscriptions over time within the app leveraging the integrated Apple Pay.
With in-app purchases, Sling & Apple users can:
- Pay quickly in 44 currencies using payment methods associated with their Apple ID, which supports nearly 200 payment methods (including Apple Pay, credit or debit cards, store credit, region-specific methods, and more — all securely stored on file).
- Access their purchased content on all devices your app supports, and restore purchases on new devices.
- View their purchase history across their Apple devices.
- Manage all of their subscriptions in one place.
User Profiles
In the interest of reuniting families divided by football rivalries, Sling TV has launched a new User Profiles feature that enables users to create personalized profiles that have all of their favorite shows, movies and yes, DVR recordings of their team’s biggest wins. The feature allows for up to four additional User Profiles that can be labeled and color-coded to easily differentiate among multiple family members. Other features include:
- More relevant personalized content on the Home Screen for each profile.
- Schedule, watch and manage DVR recordings by profile.
- The ability to pick up where you left off with profile-specific “Continue Watching.”
- Favorite specific channels by profile.
Improved Channel Surfing
During the football season, channel surfing to maximize the time spent watching games is something of an art. With Sling’s improved channel surfing feature, you can continue to watch the channel you’re on, while navigating between others. To launch this feature, just hit the “down” button on your remote to access the Mini-Guide with “Recent Channels”, “All Channels” and more, or press the “up” button to launch the full guide, while your game continues to play in a pop-up player. And if you’re in the mood for a movie, be sure to check out our new “More Like This” tab in the Mini-Guide for even better recommendations.
With all of these new features available to subscribers, we’re confident that this will be the best year yet for your favorite football team…at least when it comes to watching their games with Sling.
