Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears Preview

For years – decades even – the narrative in the NFC North has been the same: The Packers are the (green and) gold standard, the Vikings are the frisky kid brother, and the Bears and the Lions are the doormats. The past few years have been a fascinating time for the division as these perceptions have been upended. Yes, Green Bay is still a perennial playoff squad, but Detroit was the top seed in the conference a year ago, and came within a game of the Super Bowl the year before that. Minnesota has fallen on hard times this season, but they were among the best teams in the NFC in 2024. And wouldn’t you know it: the Chicago Bears have now entered the chat.

If you had to credit the Bears’ turnaround to one person, it would be first year head coach Ben Johnson, who Chicago lured away from Detroit. Johnson has nurtured the development of former No. 1 overall draft pick Caleb Williams, and his creative playcalling means Chicago always has a trick play or two up their sleeve. This is the second meeting between the Packers and Bears in three weeks, and last time out, Chicago played well in a close loss at Lambeau. With the Packers not only reeling from a tough loss to the Broncos but a season-ending injury to star pass rusher Micah Parsons, the Bears’ first NFC North title since 2018 is ripe for the picking.

Fantasy Players to Watch in Packers-Bears

Jordan Love - QB, Packers - It might seem counterintuitive to talk about a QB who might be without his top receiving threat against the Bears. However, Jordan Love has been finding a way to spread the ball around as of late, and he absolutely gashed the elite Broncos defense in the first half of last week’s game. But, as Michael Florio points out on NFL.com, the biggest reason to play him Sunday is the Bears’ reliance on man coverage, on which Love feasts (Denver switched to a lot of zone in the second half, which accounts for his fall-off).

D’Andre Swift/Kyle Monangai - RB, Bears - Chicago’s resurgent ground game has played a big part in their recent success, and while this duo isn’t yet at the Jahmyr Gibbs/David Montgomery level, they’ve made strides. Specifically, their combined 255 yard, two-TD game against the Eagles was eye-popping, and while neither has topped 100 yards in the past two weeks, they’ll look to exploit a Packers D missing Parsons. Swift is the clear No. 1 option, but he was added to the injury report on Wednesday with a groin issue, so it’s worth keeping an eye on Monangai as a fantasy playoff sleeper.

Bears-Packers Odds

According to DraftKings, the Packers are slight 1.5-point road favorites against the Bears. The Over/Under line is 46.5 points.
