The story of this one is Kenneth Walker III. In spite of winning Super Bowl MVP for the Seahawks, Seattle let him walk in free agency. The running back-needy Chiefs were all too happy to sign him, and Walker has been their MVP: despite playing only five games due to KC’s early bye, Walker still leads the league in rushing with 665 yards, and has a per game average (133 ypg) that’s more than 25 yards better than No. 2 Bijan Robinson.

Needless to say, The 12’s in Seattle will feel extremely bittersweet seeing him in red, especially given the Seahawks’ struggles in the running game this year. Seattle fans can take comfort in the play of receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The reigning AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year is off to another electric start, as he’s already tallied 717 yards and 7 TDs on 49 catches, 137 yards clear of the field. Seattle’s secondary has also been lights out this year, as they’re only allowing an NFL-best 141.3 yards through the air.

That unit will be tested by Patrick Mahomes, who sure looks like he’s back to full health after his season-ending ACL injury last season. In addition to their potent running game, the Chiefs are top 10 in passing yards per game at 254.2. That balance has pushed Kansas City to the top of yards per game at 414, but they’ll face the NFL’s top defense in Seattle, which is surrendering only 237.3ypg.

The league’s best offense vs. the league’s best defense PLUS the best receiver in the league vs. the best running back in the league? We’re in for a treat on Sunday night.

Players to watch

Kansas City: Kenneth Walker III (RB)

Walker is the story of this game. The Super Bowl LX MVP spent four seasons in Seattle, walked in free agency last offseason, and now returns to Lumen Field as the NFL's leading rusher — for the other team. He paces the league with 665 rushing yards and a sparkling 6.3 yards per carry, plus six rushing touchdowns, and he's done it in one fewer game than most backs thanks to Kansas City's early bye. He's added two more scores through the air. For a Chiefs team that's No. 1 in total offense and 5-0, Walker has given Andy Reid the downhill, explosive back the offense lacked — and a revenge narrative against the franchise that let him leave. Expect Kansas City to feed him early.

Seattle: Jaxon Smith-Njigba (WR)

If the Seahawks are going to pull off the upset, their best hope is Smith-Njigba, who has blossomed into the most productive receiver in football; JSN currently holds PFF's No. 1 receiving grade at the position. He's topped 100 yards repeatedly even as the offense around him sputters. The problem: Sam Darnold has cooled badly (7 TDs, 7 INTs; a two-pick Week 6), and Seattle's 12 turnovers rank third-worst in the league. JSN is the one constant — if Darnold can get him the ball cleanly, Seattle has a puncher's chance.
