The Atlanta Falcons are going back to the future in the 2026 NFL season. Can the Falcons take flight in 2026, or will they fall back in the NFC South packing order?

The Atlanta Falcons erased the white board this offseason after an 8-9 campaign, completely overhauling their front office and coaching staff. Owner Arthur Blank ousted general manager Terry Fontenot and head coach Raheem Morris, replacing them with new general manager Ian Cunningham from the Bears and head coach Kevin Stefanski, who was let go by the Browns. In a surprising move, former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was hired as team president and given the final say on all football operations.
With no first-round pick due to a prior trade, the Falcons used their remaining draft capital to add quality depth, drafting Clemson cornerback Avieon Terrell in the second round and Georgia wide receiver Zachariah Branch in the third round. In free agency, the team took an understated approach, signing receiver Jahan Dotson and tight end Austin Hooper to support the offense. The biggest storyline heading into the season will be the quarterback competition between incumbent Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa, who was signed to a cheap prove-it deal after being released by the Dolphins. If the defense can elevate under the new regime and the quarterback situation finds stability, the Falcons could emerge as a threat in the NFC South.
