How To Watch The US Open at LACC And Top Storylines

Golf’s third major heads to the West Coast as Los Angeles Country Club welcomes the US Open for the first time.

Over the past 10 days, the sport of golf has outlined its biggest transformation ever, while reminding us exactly why we love the game in the first place.

On June 6, the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) agreed to ‘unify’ the game in a landmark agreement that will likely be the end of the controversial LIV Golf tour. Then days later, Nick Taylor drained a 72-foot eagle putt to become the first Canadian to win the Canadian Open in 69 years. There’s been plenty to talk about in the golf world, to say the least. And now, we head West for the third major of the year with the US Open taking place at Los Angeles Country Club. To watch the US Open on Sling, you’ll need Sling Blue (or Orange + Blue) to watch the action on USA Network and on NBC in select markets. If you are not in a market with NBC, then Peacock will be your friend this weekend (there’s nothing like those late West Coast start times!). Here is the US Open Streaming Schedule and storylines to watch. Use the link at the bottom of this page to subscribe to Sling Blue with USA Network and NBC in select markets.

Los Angeles Country Club

The North Course at Los Angeles Country Club is going to be the star of this event, as it features one of the most fun course set ups in recent memory for a US Open. Designed by the great George Thomas (who also designed famous courses at Marion, Riviera and Bel-Air Country Club) and recently underwent a restoration from Gil Hanse. This is the first time that this famous piece of property has hosted a US Open, and it’s about time. Uneven lies, wispy bunkers and shaved-down areas around the green will keep it interesting, and most importantly, should provide a great viewing experience.

Who Can Win?

The short answer is: A lot of people! This is a national open and its one of golf’s toughest tests. The USGA likes to ‘protect par’ and we’re all for it. Three names come to mind right away when you think of this US Open, and it’s a different set than previous majors. It’s hard not to think that either Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm or Brooks Koepka will lift the trophy this weekend at LACC (call us harsh for not including Rory McIlroy, but the four-time major winner hasn’t won a big one in almost 10 years). Other California natives like Max Homa and Collin Morikawa are worth mentioning. Homa actually holds the course record at LACC and could be the trendy pick of the week.

The PGA Tour and PIF Agreement

It’d be irresponsible not to mention arguably the biggest story in golf’s history. In the two years since the emergence of LIV, we’ve had legal battles, petty press conferences and nasty social media posts between players and stakeholders on both tours. In the end, PGA tour Commissioner Jay Monahan flipped his position 180 degrees. He went from shaming and discrediting everything LIV was doing with the PIF to partnering with the PIF. It’s a complicated subject, and to save your eyes the time, it seems like the Tour just couldn’t compete financially with LIV. The assumption is that with this agreement, LIV will disappear and the PGA Tour will get to control the golf world with plenty of financial backing.
