Koepka and DeChambeau Continue Post-Turkey Day Tradition in ‘The Match’
Year 4 of ‘The Match’ will feature a 12-hole battle between two golfers who simply don’t like each other.
The day after Thanksgiving is an underrated one. Enter classic traditions like enjoying leftovers, watching college football, and hopefully enjoying the second day of a long four-day weekend. But a newer tradition has been gaining some steam in recent years: Capital One’s The Match. Kicked-off back in 2018 between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, The Match is now in its fourth post-Thanksgiving edition, and this year, it will feature one of golf's funniest and most-heated rivalries between Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.

The two have had a not-so-subtle feud for a while now. The battle has ranged from Brooks eyerolls merely at Bryson’s presence, to Bryson saying Brooks has no abs, to Koepka taking jabs at Bryson about slow play (if you want a full history of the feud, click here). The trash talk culminated when the PGA Tour said they would kick fans out for heckling Bryson by calling him “Brooksie”. Brooks responded to the threat by offering free beer to those kicked out for it. But after the 2021 Ryder Cup, DeChambeau and Koepka seemed to let bygones be bygones, as the two teammates played big parts in beating the Europeans at Whistling Straights. So we’ll see how testy it gets out in Las Vegas.
Compared to the previous matches, which featured Tiger Woods, Peyton Manning, Phil Mickelson, Tom Brady, Steph Curry and Charles Barkley, this one just isn’t getting the same hype. But the reality remains: we get a golf match between two of the world’s best golfers, who will be mic’d up and talking trash, with Ernie Johnson and Chuck chirping on the sidelines. Why would you not watch that?
