Just when you thought it was safe to coast through the dog days of summer by running up the air conditioning bill and joining a few more virtual happy hours with your friends (because 2020), the WWE has kindly yet firmly requested that you get your butt back on the couch with the lineup for Payback 2020.
Coming just one week after a raucous SummerSlam, this will be the first time since 2017 that Payback is included on the Pay-Per-View roster. And like SummerSlam, Payback will be held in the ThunderDome at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida with only virtual fans in attendance.
The action gets underway Sunday, August 30 at 7 PM ET/4 PM PT, and Sling has the Pay-Per-View! To help you prepare, here’s what we’ll be watching for on Sunday night:
Can Roman Reigns take back the reins on the WWE Universal Championship?
After coming out of nowhere at SummerSlam following a five-month hiatus, “The Big Dog” took both "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman to the woodshed following their match for the WWE Universal Championship. “The Fiend” won the championship at SummerSlam, but the strap was quickly put back on the line for a Triple Threat No Holds Barred match at Payback.
Is this the end for Sasha Banks and Bayley?
We’ve known since August 14 that the best frenemies would be defending their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship at Payback. There’s been a heaping helping of drama since then, however, with Bayley retaining her SmackDown Women’s Championship and Banks losing the Raw Women’s Championship, both at SummerSlam. A loss at Payback to the relatively new pairing of Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax could spell the end for one of the WWE’s most successful women’s tag-team duos.
Will Randy Orton get his rematch?
“The Viper” really wants his belt back. After failing to take the WWE Championship from Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam, Orton attacked the champ on a recent episode of WWE Raw and demanded another title shot. To get there, however, he’ll have to go through newcomer Keith Lee at Payback. Taking care of Lee should put Orton right back into title contention.
