We’re living in a golden era of famous people punching each other in the face. Less than a week after social media star Logan Paul went eight rounds with Floyd Mayweather, former NBA star Lamar Odom will be squaring off against pop singer Aaron Carter live from the Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ. The event is scheduled for this Friday, June 11, at 9pm ET and you can order the PPV fight for $29.99 on Sling, no subscription required. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the bout.
Don't Call it a Comeback
The main event, a 3-round exhibition, will be a contrast in styles. Odom is six-foot-ten and a two-time NBA champion; it would appear he has a significant advantage in size and athleticism. However, as we saw in the Paul-Mayweather fight, a larger frame can be quicker to tire, and Carter also has the edge in age, as he’s only 33, eight years younger than Odom.
Regardless of who wins, even participating in the fight should be considered a victory for both men. Odom is the subject of a new documentary, Lamar Odom: Reborn, and both he and Carter have spoken candidly about their struggles with addiction and mental health issues. According to TMZ, the fighters “have been busting their asses in the gym and we're told they're taking the fight very seriously.”
Carter and Odom aren’t the only celebrities getting in the ring on Friday. The undercard is loaded with social media and reality TV stars. First up, Wide Neck will take on Drew Mournet in a battle of human memes; 63-year-old former boxer Tim Witherspoon will take on Latino Heavyweight Champion of Celebrity Boxing, Hazel Roche; and reality star and music producer Cisco Rosado will spar with his Love & Hip Hop costar Peter Gunz.
Celebrity Refs and Hosts
In keeping with the celebrity theme, the event will be hosted by the always-entertaining Ice T and his wife Coco. And when Carter and Odom touch gloves, they won’t be the only famous men in the ring, as former UFC Champ Chuck Liddell has been tapped to referee the match. Liddell recently told TMZ that he would let the fighters put on a show, saying, “We don't want them to get hurt, but you gotta let them fight.”
