Is it ironic that a show about small town living is one of the biggest hits on TV? We may have to consult Alanis to answer that question, but regardless, the success of Home Town is certainly impressive. Erin and Ben Napier’s HGTV remodeling smash is, first and foremost, a celebration of the small, close-knit communities that most of us would never pick out on a map. Along with a new holiday special (Home Town: Ben’s Workshop, which airs Monday, Dec. 27), Home Town is back for season 6 beginning Sunday, Dec. 26 at 8pm ET. And that’s just the start of what the Napiers are planning for 2022.
The Big Takeover
Last May, the Napiers launched their second HGTV series, Home Town Takeover, which saw the couple working their magic on a new small town, Wetumpka, Alabama. All eight episodes of that series are now available to watch on demand, and next year, the Napiers are taking the concept to the next level. Partnering with People magazine, Ben and Erin will premiere what’s currently titled Home Town Kickstart later in 2022.
The new series takes the general idea of Home Town Takeover—instead of remodeling a single home, the Napiers help renovate an entire town—and brings it to scale. Home Town Kickstart finds the Napiers and other HGTV stars, including Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent (The Nate and Jeremiah Home Project); Ty Pennington (Rock the Block); Jasmine Roth (Help! I Wrecked My House); and Alison Victoria (Windy City Rehab), revitalizing six communities that were among the 2,600 cities that applied for Home Town Takeover. The cities include Buffalo, Wyoming; Cornwall, New York; Winslow, Arizona; LaGrange, Kentucky; Thomaston, Georgia; and Minden, Louisiana.
With the help of the Napiers and other HGTV experts, each town will feature three projects, according to a press release: “refresh the home of a local hero, give a small business a beautiful upgrade and reinvigorate a public space to enhance the residents' quality of life and engender community pride.”
"We see the positive impact of this small town renaissance every day in Laurel," Erin Napier said in the same release. "Ben and I can't wait to share all we've learned with our fellow HGTV experts so they can help these communities achieve their goals."
What's more, People will be there to document the “stories about everyday heroes working towards positive change in their communities,” said People editor in chief Dan Wakeford. HGTV President Jane Latman added that, “our collaboration with People gives the selected towns another valuable showcase that could lead to more support and growth."
With all-new episodes of Home Town launching this week and a whole new series coming later in 2022, the Home Town brand will be getting its own renovation in the coming months.
