Meet the Cast of 'American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez' on FX
'American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez' dramatizes one of the most infamous true crime stories in sports. Here's a look at the cast and how to watch with Sling.
The Aaron Hernandez saga would be one of the most shocking true crime stories of the 21st century even if it didn’t involve an NFL player. In 2013, the New England Patriots tight end was indicted and later convicted for the murder of Odin Lloyd. While he was on trial for that murder, Hernandez was charged with two additional killings. In 2017, just days after he was acquitted on those charges, Hernandez was found dead in his jail cell in what was ruled a suicide.

That’s just the basic outline of his case; additional details include a family history of abuse, rumors around Hernandez’s sexuality, and the discovery that he was suffering from severe CTE at the time of his death. It’s a dark and lurid story that comes to life in the 10-episode new series American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, which premieres with back-to-back episodes at 10pm ET on Tuesday, Sep. 17 on FX. Because the actors portray real people (some of whom are among the most famous and recognizable faces in all of sports), there’s intense interest around the cast. Here’s your first look at the cast of American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez on FX.

Josh Rivera as Aaron Hernandez
Like a lot of this cast, Rivera is best-known as a stage actor. In addition to performing with the first national tour of Hamilton, Rivera can be seen in films like West Side Story and in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Tony Yazbeck as Urban Meyer
Portraying Urban Meyer, Hernandez’s coach at Florida, Tony Yazbeck is a stand out in the cast. Another stage actor, you’ve seen Yazbeck in shows like The Good Fight and Billions.
Patrick Schwarzenegger as Tim Tebow
The son of Hollywood and fitness icon Arnold Schwarzenegger, Patrick Schwarzenegger was most recently seen in The Boys spin-off Gen V, as well as The Terminal List alongside his brother-in-law Chris Pratt, and The Staircase on MAX.
Norbert Leo Butz as Bill Belichick
While he may not be familiar to TV viewers, Butz is one of only nine actors with two Tony wins for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical. He also had a part in the Justified: City Primeval and will appear alongside Timothee Chalamet in the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown.
