'Stupid Pet Tricks' on TBS is Cute, Funny, and Clever

Despite its name, 'Stupid Pet Tricks' on TBS is quite clever. Here are the details, and how to watch with Sling TV.

As a kid who was bothered by this back in the 1990s, it should be noted that “Stupid” in the title Stupid Pet Tricks refers to the trick, not the animal. The animals are actually quite smart.

With those semantics cleared up, if you love animals, you will love Stupid Pet Tricks, which airs new episodes Mondays at 9pm ET on TBS. Hosted by Sarah Silverman, the show expands on the classic David Letterman segment, which featured pets performing tricks of varying quality and difficulty. But while those bits often featured common domesticated pets, TBS’ new version ups the ante by featuring more exotic animals; if you’ve ever wanted to see a camel do the limbo – and who amongst us hasn’t wished for such a stunt – this is the show for you.

Beyond the amazing animal abilities, Stupid Pet Tricks maintains the deadpan humor that both Letterman and Silverman are known for. The show’s “writers room” consists of an assortment of critters instead of humans, and episodes feature clever animal-themed interstials (the premiere episode is “brought to you by Spiders. Spiders: Just be glad we’re not bigger!”).

But let’s be real: the pets and their uncanny abilities are the star of the show. The premiere alone features the aforementioned camel trick, a tightrope-walking dog, and a goat that struts around like a human (somehow, this goat is NOT named Mr. Tumnus). As anyone who follows pet accounts on social media could tell you, the animals alone are the star of the show, the comedy is just the icing on the cake.

So if you like animals and/ or laughter, the smart animals on Stupid Pet Tricks will scratch that itch.
