Only 18 months after it left us on a cliffhanger finale to a season full of game-changing plot twists — Mac finally acknowledging he’s gay, Charlie finally persuading The Waitress to move in with him and have a baby, Dennis accepting responsibility for the child he apparently sired on a layover in North Dakota (during season 10’s “The Gang Beats Boggs”) and leaving altogether — It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is back for its 13th season.
Obviously, the biggest question for this season is whether Glenn Howerton, who’s had his hands full the last year or so in the lead role on A.P. Bio on NBC, will return as The Gang’s self-declared leader, Dennis Reynolds. Friends, while I have seen the first four episodes of this new season, I don’t let my son open his presents on Christmas Eve, and I’m not going to tell you how the show addresses Dennis’ absence, but it is unexpected, hilarious, and perfect.
As season 13 begins, Mac has fully embraced his sexuality in a very visual way (that is also in keeping with his character), The Waitress is still living with Charlie in his apartment, Dee is still Dee, Frank is still Frank. To say any more would be to spoil jokes best left unspoiled, so in the tradition of the totally confounding old “On next week’s episode of Mad Men” trailers that betrayed nothing at all about what might actually occur in next week’s episode of Mad Men, here are some random ideas, phrases, and characters that appear in season 13:
All of which is to say, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is back, jabronis, and as misanthropically funny as ever.
(PS: If you really don’t want anything about Dennis spoiled, don’t watch the trailer below)
