Complete Guide to the World of 'BMF' on Starz
With a new season on the way, ‘BMF’ is a budding empire on Starz. Here’s a look at season 4, including recaps and how to watch with Sling.
BMF can stand for a few different things. But for Starz, the best acronym would be Big Massive Franchise.
The fourth season of the crime drama premieres Friday, June 6 on Starz. Since the first season in 2021, the real-life story of brothers Demetrius "Big Meech" Flenory and his brother Terry "Southwest T" Flenory has become one of the biggest hits on Starz. Executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, BMF is something like a real-life version of the Power spin-off Raising Kanan: Part period piece, part compelling crime thriller. To get you ready for the new season, here’s a refresher on the first three seasons, plus a look at the extended BMF universe, and what to expect from season 4. ‘BMF’ Season 1 Recap
The first season of BMF sets up the characters and dramatic stakes to come. The show’s opening slate reads, “The story you’re about to see is loosely based on truth…but a lot of this sh*t may have actually happened.” This disclaimer speaks to the “print the legend” ethos behind the series, as well as the challenges of dramatizing events that actually happened and people who are still alive. With their names appearing in songs from rappers like Rick Ross, Pusha T, and many others, Big Meech and Southwest T (Da'Vinchi) have both achieved something like folk hero status, and Big Meech is played by none other than his actual son, Demetrius Flenory Jr., aka Lil Meech.
That said, in season 1, BMF doesn’t shy away from the tragic effects that street life has on the boy’s parents – played by Russell Hornsby and Michole Briana White – and the show frequently foreshadows the divisions that will eventually cause a rift between the Flenory brothers (those who are curious to learn more about the family behind the show can also watch Starz’s 8-part documentary series, The BMF Documentary: Blowing Money Fast). The first season largely focuses on the highs and lows of establishing their empire, and introduces a number of allies and rivals who will be returning for season 4, including Eric Kofi-Abrefa as Lamar Silas and Myles Truitt as B-Mickie.
Best Guest Star: Much like Power, there are great guest appearances across all seasons of BMF. The clear choice for season 1 is Snoop Dogg as Pastor Swift. Not only is there a bit of delicious irony in the gangsta rap legend portraying a pastor who tries to set the Flenory brothers back on a righteous path, but he gets to pull a gun on Lamar for bringing a dead dog into his church.
‘BMF’ Season 2 Recap
Season 2 opens with Meech and Terry at odds, with T looking to go legit by starting a car-ride service with their father Charles. Meech, meanwhile, is looking for a new plug, and faces an escalating series of risks to grow the business. Following another spat of violence, T returns to the fold, and a trip to Atlanta proves fertile in expanding BMF beyond the midwest. But as the law begins to close in and enemies look to undermine their empire, the Flenory brothers will have to make some hard choices about how far they’re willing to go to keep and build on their success.
Best Guest Star: We’ve seen too little of Mo’Nique since her Oscar-winning performance in 2009’s Precious. But Mo’Nique’s guest arc as strip club owner and Atlanta plug Goldie in BMF’s second season is a vivid reminder of what a unique performer she is. Charming yet tough, savvy but loyal, Goldie is a standout character in an already loaded ensemble.
‘BMF’ Season 3 Recap
The third season finds the brothers once again separated, with Meech continuing to establish BMF’s new base in Atlanta while Terry holds it down in Detroit. If the first two seasons largely focused on the challenges of building their empire, season 3 is more about the struggles that come with maintaining it. There’s also a bigger emphasis on the personal lives of the characters, with Charles and Lucille’s marriage pushed to the brink and Terry’s love triangle between his son's mother LaWanda (Sydney Mitchell) and an older love interest Markisha Taylor (La La Anthony). In some ways, the function of the third season is to tie up a lot of loose ends before clearing the table for the upcoming season, which begins where season 3 left off: With Meech and Terry in Mexico attempting to spring their Columbian supplier Loco (Roberto Sanchez) from prison.
Best Guest Star: Given BMF’s connections to the world of hip-hop, it’s no surprise that rappers from Snoop Dogg and Eminem to Lil Baby, 2 Chainz, and Saweetie have appeared on the show. But in terms of musician-actors, R&B star Ne-Yo steals the show in season 3. Portraying Rodney “Greeny” Green, a confident and brash strip club owner who helps BMF launder their cash, Ne-Yo steals most scenes he appears in.
Has ‘BMF’ Been Cancelled?
No, but there has been some behind the scenes drama due to the beef between the show’s executive producer, 50 Cent, and his longtime rival Rick Ross. According to Billboard, when the real Big Meech was recently released from a halfway house, he appeared in a photo alongside Ross, which apparently angered 50 Cent. That led Ross to assert that, “I wanna do a BMF film because you’ve been entertained by a lackluster, small-budget series.” Rumors about BMF’s cancellation appear to stem from a since-deleted post that airs out texts between Lil Meech and 50, in which he claims that Ross was helping his father stay afloat “until our next season starts,” to which 50 then replied, “what next season.”
It’s doubtful that a decades-old rap beef could end the run of one of Starz’s biggest franchises, but regardless of the show’s future, we’re getting a fourth season of BMF this summer.

What are the Other ‘BMF’ Shows?
As referenced above, Starz also has an 8-part documentary series, The BMF Documentary: Blowing Money Fast that’s available on-demand. The day before the premiere of BMF season 4, Starz announced that the docuseries will also be getting a second season, according to Deadline. The second season will be six episodes and will feature an exclusive interview with Terry Flenory. No release date has been announced for the second season of Blowing Money Fast.
