"America's Next Top Model" Learns New Words from Andre Leon Talley
February 8th 2010 at 6:14pm by CharlotteCowles

Andre Leon Talley has just finished filming his first season of "America's Next Top Model" and signed on to do three more, apparently with Anna Wintour's blessing (I'm guessing "Fine, Andre," is about as good as it gets). He'll be wearing a specially-made line of robes by Chado Ralph Rucci, who also got a crap-ton of reality show love on last week's premiere of "Kell on Earth." He'll also be introducing a fresh lineup of buzzwords to the "ANTM" lexicon, which is great, because if I hear "smize" one more time I'm going to plug my ears with Covergirl sponge applicators.

What's his favorite new word? Hit "continue reading."

Andre Leon Talley to Guest-Judge for an Entire Season of "America's Next Top Model"
December 14th 2009 at 11:53am by CharlotteCowles

To solidify Vogue magazine's descent amongst the unrefined tastes of mere mortals, editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley will appear as a guest judge on the entire upcoming season of "America's Next Top Model." Originally thought to be a mere guest judge for only one episode, as Kimora Lee Simmons will be (they're friends, too! See video, above), some particularly vigilant journalists have deduced that Talley has been hanging around the New Zealand set for way too long to be on just one judging panel. Given the kind of tips he has for Kimora in the clip above ("Could you walk a little bit faster, and not so truck drivery-like? Stomach in! Think thin, think thin! Stop, walk, turn!"), he might be just what the show has been missing since the departure of Janice Dickinson. Sure, Talley's previous judging qualifications may include the most recent Miss Universe Pageant, which descended from lowbrow to pitiful when Heidi Montag performed; then again, Anna Wintour also went on "The Late Show," so we can all agree that these are desperate times. If Talley plays his cards right, he could restore some fashion cred to the show, which has been struggling to find its edge (with its gimmicky "petite model" cycle and the blackface shoot) amidst Tyra's attempts for daytime TV domination.

Bee Shaffer Lands Job at CollegeHumor
November 2nd 2009 at 4:45pm by CharlotteCowles

Ah, Bee, you trickster you; you had us fooled with your coy lines in "The September Issue" about never wanting to follow your mother's footsteps into the wide world of media. "I want to study law," you said, oh-so-crafty-like. But then you graduated from college and found that the path to the courtroom was perhaps a bit longer than you anticipated. The economy is really as bad as everyone said. And you realized that when it comes to media, connections will get you everywhere. However, you still had some pride and wanted to be a little bit rebellious, so you took a job as the assistant to Ricky Van Veen, the editor-in-chief of CollegeHumor, the most lowbrow, fart-joke-making website on the internet (the internet!) . Anna must be aghast. Before long, you'll be Sarah Schneider's sole female sidekick in videos like this one, above.

Anna Wintour Talks About Her Icy Reputation With David Letterman: Hey, Look What We Just Got!
August 24th 2009 at 8:45pm by TaraAriano

One of Gawker's spies was on site at the taping of tonight's episode of "The Late Show with David Letterman," to report on Vogue editor Anna Wintour -- appearing as part of the "charm" offensive surrounding "The September Issue," the new documentary in which she stars. Said spy called Wintour "reptilian," and likened her to Hannibal Lecter...but how do you think she comes across? Gawker doesn't have the video; we do. Check out a preview excerpt, above.

Miss Universe
Heidi Montag "Sings" at the Miss Universe Pageant
August 24th 2009 at 3:01pm by CharlotteCowles

At last night's Miss Universe pageant (see the winner being crowned, above), Heidi Montag performed her single "Body Language" in a sexy, flesh-colored spandex getup. She almost looked naked, but that's not such a big deal, since it's nothing we haven't seen before. (Note to Heidi: stop letting Spencer pick out your outfits). She was also wearing a microphone, but it clearly wasn't turned on until the song ended and she thanked the crowd; in fact, I'm pretty sure her lips weren't moving for much of the performance.

But far more importantly, I want to know if Montag exchanged words with guest judge/Vogue editor Andre Leon Talley. What kind of stinkeye did he gave her when she paraded out in sparkly nude Spanx? There's no way he could have seen her pre-performance, because he would never have let her on primetime TV looking like that. See the video of her performance, after the jump.

The Early Show
Andre Leon Talley Appears on "The Early Show," Continues Vogue's Outreach to the Commonfolk
August 20th 2009 at 4:47pm by CharlotteCowles

Vogue Editor-at-Large Andre Leon Talley stopped by "The Early Show" this morning to discuss the much-anticipated documentary, "The September Issue." Dressed in a getup that's best described as what would happen if a bathrobe and a bedspread had a baby (accessorized with an awesome claw necklace), he talked about working for notorious Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. "She's not an ice floe," he confirmed, but "it's no tea party."

Andre's "Early Show" appearance is just the latest part of Vogue's odd mainstream media blitz; after years of maintaining her frigid, more-glamorous-than-thou distance from middle America, Anna and her minions have descended amongst the commonfolk in a bid to save their skins from the publishing world's imposion. (See also: Anna's upcoming appearance on "Letterman" and her t-shirt signing in Queens.) Andre will be continuing to do his part in the outreach effort, sitting in as a guest judge in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant. Will he bask poolside (in a giant caftan, of course) with Spencer Pratt? Oh man -- that mental image just burned a hole in my brain.

Anna Wintour to Appear on "Letterman," Has Much Explaining to Do
August 13th 2009 at 4:23pm by CharlotteCowles

Anna Wintour (above, on "60 Minutes") will appear on "The Late Show With David Letterman" Monday, probably to promote (and uh, defend herself from) the upcoming release of "The September Issue."

All of this inclusivity around Vogue is starting to make me nervous. For a glossy that's exclusive by definition, it's looking mighty desperate for followers these days. Cover lines on the 2009 September issue include: "The REAL September Issue," (in case people see the magazine and the magazine-related film and become confused?), and "A Global Shopping Spree (And You're Invited)." Isn't Vogue's appeal that we lowly, bagel-eating folk aren't invited?

Oh, and also, it's a measly 584 pages, down from last year's 798 and 2007's 840. Psh. Anna, you have a lot of explaining to do come Monday.

Anna Wintour Throws Huge Premiere Party for Potentially Unflattering Film About Herself
July 21st 2009 at 3:27pm by CharlotteCowles

When R.J. Cutler made a documentary film about her, what was Anna Wintour to do? She could (and did) try to convince him to do it her way. But when he (reportedly) refused to change it, she threw the most opulent, star-studded premiere party that she could possibly muster.

It appears that "The September Issue" -- which follows Editor-in-Chief Wintour as she put together the thickest, most decadent copy of Vogue ever made (September 2007) -- may portray Wintour differently than she would like. When she was recently asked about it, she replied simply, "It's R.J.'s film." Now that its release date (August 28) is looming, she seems to have changed her tune, and will host a "splashy" premiere fete on August 18.

Let's not forget that this is the same woman who showed up to the premiere of "The Devil Wears Prada" wearing...well, you know.

See the film's trailer, after the jump.

"Bridget Jones 3" On Its Way
July 16th 2009 at 9:40am by CharlotteCowles

Hide your Haagen Dazs: Variety.com reports that a third "Bridget Jones" movie is slated for next year, with Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, and Renee Zellweger reprising their roles. Producers have yet to name a writer and director, but we can be sure that the film will contain enough cringeworthy moments to make even the most hapless woman look like Anna Wintour. As for the plot: how could Bridget possibly embody every negative female stereotype more embarrassingly than she did in the first two films? Well, having covered dating mishaps, weight battles, and paranoid jealousy, it seems we are left with baby lust. Following Bridget's [spoiler alert!] engagement to Mark Darcy at the end of the second movie, Bridget will attempt to get pregnant in the third go-round, all the while (we assume) continuing to flirt with the roguish Daniel Cleaver. One question remains: if Bridget is to be with child, how many media reports are we going to have to suffer through about her heroically gaining and then losing weight?
