Earlier this week, I posed the apparently rhetorical question of whether Twitter is done being a punchline -- and I say "apparently rhetorical" because David Letterman has basically spent this week mocking the service on "The Late Show." He's done some tweeting on the show's official Twitter feed, @Late_Show, but one suspects that he is doing it under protest. Above, in a special preview for tonight's new episode, Letterman discusses the question of interacting with one's followers with guest Mindy Kaling (a.k.a. @mindykaling), an actress, writer, and now director on NBC's "The Office." But there's so much more! See all the week's Twitter mockery after the jump -- and remember, it's only Wednesday!

Here's why you should follow "Community" creator Dan Harmon on Twitter: on March 5, when he got the news that the show had been renewed for a second season, he took his iPhone into the makeup trailer and made the video above, telling the cast the news. Keep your eye on Yvette Nicole Brown; it takes her a few seconds to process what he's told her. It's kind of adorable.
In its short life, the microblogging service Twitter has been the butt of many a joke, from the Twitter Tracker on Conan O'Brien's (short-lived) "Tonight Show" to...well, last night's episode of "The Simpsons." But if even O'Brien himself has come around on Twitter, is it time for the rest of pop culture to catch up? After all, there is evidence that Twitter can actually facilitate positive change in the world. Find out how after the jump.

11:07:50 AM Will Edmondson: Tara, per our readers' mandate, we saw "Cop Out" last night, and I, for one, feel pretty okay about it.
11:08:19 AM Tara Ariano: I didn't have especially high expectations for it (quite the contrary, in fact), but I was pleasantly surprised!
11:09:02 AM Will Edmondson: You seemed to be dreading it!
11:09:19 AM Tara Ariano: It was getting pretty horrendous reviews (like Richard Roeper's, above), so I had cause.
11:10:22 AM Will Edmondson: Yeah, and we'll get to that later, because wow, some people do not like Kevin Smith!
Last night, Jay Leno returned to the "Tonight Show" berth he'd vacated last spring; perhaps you heard or read something about how Conan O'Brien doesn't host that show anymore? How well did Vulture, MTV, and NPR's Monkey See blog predict what Leno would do in his first episode back at 11:35? You can find out by watching the full episode above; the rest of last night's late-night highlights are after the jump.
continue readingLast month, I got you all excited (didn't I?) about the then-imminent premiere of FX's animated sitcom, "Archer." Now, I'm thrilled to report that the network has made the show's first two episodes available to watch in full, right here. See the pilot, "Mole Hunt," above, and click "continue reading" for Episode 2, "Training Day" -- plus some very important news.

Some important news of which you may not be aware: the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue hits newsstands today. Last night, David Letterman had the honor of unveiling a billboard featuring the cover image...after just a slight snafu. See the big moment above, and hit "continue reading" for the rest of last night's late-night highlights.

Man-meat cougar plaything Ashton Kutcher hosted this week's episode of "Saturday Night Live," and he did a good job of it! Check out this week's recap after the jump.
continue readingSo the first episode of The CW's charming new drama "Life Unexpected" established that Cate and Baze had a daughter who was getting ready to petition the state for emancipation (ultimately denied in favor of joint custody shared by her biological parents); the second showed how Baze and Cate were going to attempt to grow up in order to prove that they were fit to parent their child. In tonight's third episode, we finally find out how the reappearance of Lux in her parents' lives affects their extended families: not only do Baze's parents want to throw a dinner party so that they can get to know Cate and Lux; Cate's long-lost sister also comes back on the scene to embarrass Cate on her radio show. See that above, and click "continue reading" for another preview, after the jump.
continue readingBefore the current season of "Ugly Betty" began last fall, ABC hyped us all up with the clip above, outlining the five key ingredients that make up the show. But maybe when that tube of "beauty creme" was spinning in front of the camera, we should have checked it for an expiration date: Variety reports today that "Ugly Betty" will end its series run this April.
This hardly comes as surprising news: since the show's premiere in its original Friday time slot, it's been hammered in the ratings. And it's still a consistent time slot loser even with its much stronger Wednesday lead-in, "Cougar Town." ABC has a bunch of other hit shows on the air right now; it doesn't have to continue cosseting one that's been a critical darling in the past. I mean, this isn't NBC!
I have had my problems with "Betty" over the years (most of them revolving around the late Bradford Meade and the dull, businessy storylines he starred in), but it's a sweet, sunny show and, I hope, will prove to have been a great launching pad for supporting talent like Becki Newton, Michael Urie, and Ana Ortiz. And, as Matt Roush pointed out today: "At least they get to write an ending." Here's hoping it's not a love match between Betty and Daniel, as has been rumored, because ew, I don't care if that is how the original series ended.
Until the end comes, though, we can look back on some recent high points. See them after the jump.
