Oscar Preview Round-Up: For Novelty Purposes Only; No Wagering, Please!
March 1st 2010 at 12:42pm by TaraAriano

It seems like only yesterday we were marveling at the nominees for the 2010 Academy Awards, and now the award telecast is nearly upon us! Between now and Sunday's start time, you will probably have to attend a cocktail party where the show is discussed, be asked by a friend which was the year's most egregious snub, fill out a ballot with your guesses as to each category's winners -- or possibly all three. Since hardly anyone sees EVERY nominated movie (exception noted!), you may need to cheat. We can help. Above, see a wrap-up of film critic Richard Roeper's Oscar predictions; after the jump...so much more.

Kate Gosselin Gets New TLC Show Without Kids or Husband
January 13th 2010 at 1:41pm by CharlotteCowles

TLC has signed up Kate Gosselin for a new reality series that will feature her "trying new things" without Jon or her brood, TheWrap.com reports. The reality star and her new litter of hair extensions has been reclaimed by the network "because they are worried if they don't do it with Kate, someone else will," according to a shady-sounding unnamed source.

The new show, which is slated to debut in late spring/early summer, will supposedly have an "interactive" factor in which viewers can suggest new challenges revolving around Kate trying various different professions. I'm picturing something kind of like "The Simple Life," only set on a farm for one week, then a restaurant the next, and perhaps a hardware store after that. I'm sure there will be plenty of fame-mongering businesses that would love to have her around. No fashion-related jobs, please, though -- for all our sakes.

The show is unnamed as of yet, but hopefully will be titled something like, "Kate For Hire," or "Working Mother of Eight," or "Jon Doesn't Pay Child Support." I'm going to make a totally wild prediction that the series ends with Kate getting "challenged" to host her own talk show, and then...she gets hired! Pure conjecture, though.

Ghost Hunters International
"Ghost Hunters International" Features a Guest Appearance by Hitler's Ghost (Or Does It?)
January 7th 2010 at 2:58pm by JulieKlausner

Good news! Remember how Adolf Hitler committed a host of atrocities including but not limited to overseeing the systematic massacre of six million Jews and spearheading a monomaniacal takeover of Europe during World War II? Of course you do. But now it's all okay, sort of! Because this week, they searched for Hitler's Ghost on "Ghost Hunters International," which I guess is a spinoff of "Ghost Hunters" they produced after some poor SyFy intern went and got the cast some passports and explained what "frites" were.

So, in this episode, the spectacularly unattractive cast of "Ghost Hunters International" go to Argentina equipped with flashlights, electromagnetic scanners, and night-vision cameras, in addition to their signature hoodies, pomade, and stupid goatees, in order to seek retribution for the dark deeds of one of history's most notorious villains. And it went really well! Except that it totally didn't. More on the "Hitler's Ghost" episode of "Ghost Hunters International" after the jump.

College Kids Program Christmas Light Show to "I Gotta Feeling"
December 22nd 2009 at 3:42pm by WillEdmondson

There's about a 5% chance that you're working dilligently this afternoon (I'm with you, slackers), so while you're counting down your escape, I've got a question: What do you get when you give a bunch of electrical engineering students a couple hundred strands of Christmas lights, some speakers, a house and a computer? No, not "Home Alone," though that was a good guess! You get a dancing light show, programmed to "I Gotta Feeling," by the Black Eyed Peas. Or, at least that's what happened recently at the University of Dayton, proving that even in Ohio, engineers have bad taste in music. The video's after the jump, and if you'd like to hear more from the Peas' catalog, their live performance of "Boom Boom Pow" from "The View" is above.

Nickelback Named Billboard's "Group of the Decade"; Billboard Is Hilariously Serious
December 15th 2009 at 5:20pm by WillEdmondson

The Black Eyed Peas may have "Boom Boom Pow"ed the music world at the end of the "naughty aughties" (as they did on "The View," above) but according to Billboard, they're not the group of the decade. Instead, Billboard's group of the decade is Nickelback. Apparently "quality" wasn't one of their determining criteria.

Certainly, Nickelback has sold a ton of records and had a lot of hits these past ten years...but I thought we'd agreed to chalk that up to the heady, pre-recession days of yore. But, I suppose, it's Billboard's list, and they can say what they want. But you know one place where this isn't going over well? Portugal. See why after the jump.

Barbara Walters and Her "10 Most Fascinating People" Are More "Interesting" Than "Fascinating"
December 10th 2009 at 2:32pm by HannahLawrence

Last night, Barbara Walters' "10 Most Fascinating People of 2009" special aired on ABC. She is proud of her selections and calls it the most "provocative" group of people she's ever had. Watch the clip above from "The View" to hear her thoughts on her interview with the fifth most fascinating person, and click "continue reading" to see who else rounded out the list (but maybe shouldn't have).

Perez Hilton Torn Apart By Valiant KTLA Anchor
December 9th 2009 at 1:42pm by WillEdmondson

Perez Hilton -- known in some circles as "The Worst" -- went on "The View" a few days ago to give his theory that celebrities don't have a right to privacy. He's wrong, of course, but we're not going to get into the reasons why Perez Hilton is bad right now. We'll let KTLA anchor Sam Rubin do that for us.

Apparently, Hilton was supposed to make an appearance on KTLA's morning show, but showed up at the wrong time, and demanded to go on when he got there. The station told him to wait his turn, but Hilton said he needed to go back to work on his blog, and asked if he could do the interview via Skype instead. The station refused, and Hilton stormed out, taking to Twitter to cause a little controversy. Then, Sam Rubin heroically responded on air, and took the "talentless dope" to the mat. Journalism! Hit "continue reading" to see Rubin's YouTube moment.

Billboard Releases Top One-Hit Wonders of The Decade
December 7th 2009 at 12:17pm by HannahLawrence

Gather 'round, everyone. We're about shin-deep in the last month of the decade, which means people are scrambling to compile lists of the best and worst of everything from the past ten years. And the people at Billboard certainly had their work cut out for them (they did have to figure out how to explain that S Club 7 song). But today, all their hard work paid off because they just released the charts, "All No. 1 Songs," "Songs With Most Weeks at No. 1," and "All No. 1 Albums." And yes, you're more than welcome to use them as the soundtrack to your day.

But come on, we all know the Black Eyed Peas (who perform "Boom Boom Pow" on "The View," above) had a superb few years. Their songs and albums killed it on the charts because we made them popular. In doing so however, other artists now find themselves in Billboard's slightly less favorable category of "One-Hit Wonders of the Decade." These are the kids who didn't get picked for kickball, grew up, and only made one good song in a period of ten years (especially you, Lou Bega), and they're feeling pretty bad about their rankings right now. So if we have any heart at all, we'll spend today listening to them and validating their efforts...especially the guy who Billboard named the one-hit wonder king. He and his song are revealed, after the jump.

"The View" Ladies Discuss Paula Deen's "Ham Incident"
November 24th 2009 at 4:29pm by WillEdmondson

How many times did you watch that clip of Paula Deen getting hit in the face with a ham yesterday? Personally, I'm on my eighth viewing...and it's still funny. Calm down, she's okay and laughing about it, I'm sure it hurt, I've never been hit in the face with a large block of meat and therefore can't relate, etc. (Look, golden retriever puppies!)

But today, the ladies of "The View" got their hands on the footage, and after a thorough breakdown of the shaky, Zapruder film-esque footage, they determined that it was, indeed, hilarious! Oh, and Sherri Shepherd made a great Marsha Brady nose joke, and Whoopi Goldberg said she was too old to remember "The Brady Bunch"! Sometimes "The View" is the best.
