Tiger Woods to Return for The Masters
March 16th 2010 at 11:40am by WillEdmondson

Tiger Woods has just announced that he plans to return to the PGA Tour to compete in the 2010 Masters tournament, which begin April 8. Woods said in a statement, "The Masters is where I won my first major and I view this tournament with great respect. After a long and necessary time away from the game, I feel like I'm ready to start my season at Augusta." This is of course only part of the Tiger news this week; though "The View" notes above that he and his wife Elin have reportedly moved back in with each other, Radar Online then contradicted their scoop yesterday. This is exhausting, but I can help: For all the tiger news you need, click here.

College Kids Program Christmas Light Show to "I Gotta Feeling"
December 22nd 2009 at 3:42pm by WillEdmondson

There's about a 5% chance that you're working dilligently this afternoon (I'm with you, slackers), so while you're counting down your escape, I've got a question: What do you get when you give a bunch of electrical engineering students a couple hundred strands of Christmas lights, some speakers, a house and a computer? No, not "Home Alone," though that was a good guess! You get a dancing light show, programmed to "I Gotta Feeling," by the Black Eyed Peas. Or, at least that's what happened recently at the University of Dayton, proving that even in Ohio, engineers have bad taste in music. The video's after the jump, and if you'd like to hear more from the Peas' catalog, their live performance of "Boom Boom Pow" from "The View" is above.

Letterman Sex Scandal to Be Dramatized on "Law & Order"
November 5th 2009 at 12:35pm by WillEdmondson

David Letterman had a rough go of it in the media last month, after he disclosed an extortion plot on his show (above). Thanks to procedural cop dramas, he's still not out of the woods. Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello reports that "Law and Order" will be using Letterman's sex scandal as the basis for an episode to be filmed later this year. But wait, there's a twist! Apparently, in the TV version, the Letterman character will be femaie, and will be cheating on her spouse with a female staffer. The scandal will be uncovered by the Internet, and someone will end up dead. Because if you're already having to sex up a sex scandal for TV, why not have somebody die, too?

"Inside The Actors Studio": The Home Version (Kind Of)
October 7th 2009 at 5:53pm by WillEdmondson

Vanity Fair put up an interactive Proust Questionnaire on its website recently, which famously reveals a subject's true nature. The magazine's been using a version of the questionnaire for a long time, and publishing celebrities' answers. Users who take the test online can compare their answers to those of famous people, and see if "They share a fear with Valentino," for example. I'm going to predict that I don't share a fear with Valentino, because I'm not pleated khaki-phobic. But it's still a cool idea, and it's basically the "Inside the Actors Studio" home game.

Host James Lipton bases the structure of his questions off the Proust Questionnaire, in the tradition of French TV host Bernard Pivot. Since most of us will never get to be on the other side of the desk (and towering stack of index cards) from Lipton, this Vanity Fair test may be the closest we'll ever come. And hey, if you answer "South Africa after giving up $50 million" to question 10 ("When and where are you the happiest?"), you'll probably have a lot in common with Dave Chappelle (above).

Jimmy Fallon to Host Yacht Rock Party Tonight
October 5th 2009 at 6:14pm by WillEdmondson

It's always a party on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (proof above), but tonight's episode is going to be especially sporting: Fallon will host a Yacht Rock tribute show, complete with Christopher Cross performing "Ride Like the Wind" and "Sailing," and everyone in the studio in festive dress. Yacht Rock was originally a hilarious Channel 101 project with five minute episodes about that special time in America's muscial history when bands like Loggins and Messina, the Doobie Brothers, and Hall and Oates ruled the world...in other words, a proud, formative era in our nation's cultural heritage.

So don your finest captain's hat, put the Bartles & Jaymes on ice, dust off your finest pair of loafers, and get ready to rock the boat (get it? Yachts are boats!). Hit "continue reading" to watch the original Channel 101 clip, and "remember the good times" in preparation for tonight (some language NSFW).

Betty White to Guest Star on "30 Rock"
September 22nd 2009 at 5:04pm by WillEdmondson

Betty White, come on down! You're the next guest star on "30 Rock"! Tina Fey told "Access Hollywood" at the Emmys that White will appear on the show as herself, and that they were filming the bit the day after the awards (i.e. yesterday). White's certainly funny enough to handle a turn on the show (as she proves on "Chelsea Lately," above), and I'm sure the "30 Rock" writers will find good use for her as a member of Tracy Jordan's posse. I hope.

Emmy Predictions - Variety, Music, or Comedy Series: From the Bullpen
September 8th 2009 at 3:49pm by WillEdmondson

[14:40] Tara Ariano: With the Reality categories out of the way, let's get down to a real Emmy contest: Outstanding Variety, Music, or Comedy Series. The nominees are: "The Colbert Report," "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," "The Late Show with David Letterman," "Real Time with Bill Maher," and "Saturday Night Live." Will: I watch ALL THESE SHOWS.
[14:41] Will Edmondson: You watch "Bill Maher"? I guess you're a godless Communist.
[14:41] Tara Ariano: Hey! I'm a godless SOCIALIST, thank you very much.
[14:42] WillEdmondson: Oh right. Well, I watch the other four, and "Maher" when Jay-Z is a guest. So I'm pumped about this category. I just don't want any of those four to lose, because they're all so great.

Charles Gibson to Retire from "ABC World News," Replaced By Diane Sawyer
September 2nd 2009 at 4:14pm by WillEdmondson

Charlie Gibson announced today that he's resigning his post as anchor of "ABC World News," effective at the end of the year. Gibson has spent 35 years at ABC News, and wrote in an email to ABC staff, "It has not been an easy decision to make...And I love this news department, and all who work in it, to the depths of my soul." Diane Sawyer will replace Gibson as anchor next year.

Gibson did a great job at "ABC World News," and while Sawyer is undoubtedly qualified to do a great job as well, I bet ol' Diane's going to be a little more fun. For proof, watch the clip of Gibson discussing Obama's Inauguration on "The View" (above), then hit "continue reading" below for Diane Sawyer's take on the same event the next day.

Britney Spears, Bikini Fan, Reads David Letterman's Top Ten List
August 19th 2009 at 11:19am by WillEdmondson

Britney Spears likes bikinis (as we learned yesterday), and decided last night to share her swimsuit obsession with a national television audience. Spears dressed for the pool and went on David Letterman's "Late Show" to read the "Top Ten Ways the Country Would Be Different If [She] Were President," like naming Diddy her vice president, making costume changes at presidential news conferences, and giving everyone free pie.

But the funniest moment of the clip belongs to Letterman, who asks us to "focus on how many times [Spears] switches from hip to hip" during the segment. I guess someone thought the nearly-naked singer could distract the audience by changing her pose between each item on the list...and though I'm tempted to make a "free pie" joke here, I'll just say that the tactic didn't work very well.

Tracy Morgan Meets George Lucas, Declares Yoda Is His Father
August 17th 2009 at 5:36pm by WillEdmondson

As if you needed any more reason to want to spend an afternoon with Tracy Morgan (a wish that currently tops my Bucket List), I present to you some highlights from the comedian's appearance on the 100th episode of "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon." The funniest bit (above) came during director Neal Brennan's interview, when Morgan and Brennan recounted their chance encounter with George Lucas while pitching a movie at Dreamworks. Something tells me that after their incident, the duo won't have any chances to work with Lucas in the future.

To see Morgan's own hilarious interview, hit "continue reading" for both parts after the jump.
