Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper Talk about Lipstick for What Seems Like Forever
February 10th 2010 at 5:43pm by JulieKlausner

Does anybody else think that a snow-phobic guest -- or three -- canceled his or her appearance on "Today" this morning? I bring it up only because this interview with Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper, about their joint campaign promoting MAC's new version of their Viva Glam lipstick and AIDS awareness, seems to go on FOREVER. Al Roker, who is subbing in for Kathie Lee Gifford, doesn't say much in this clip, and you can't beat the Hoda way of dealing with the gay crack super-duo of Gaga and Cyndi that is "smile and nod constantly." In this eleven minute clip -- which wasn't even the length of their full appearance -- the two ladies speak in their respectively affected speaking voices about AIDS, condoms, lipsticks, inter-generational friendships, being inspired, Gaga's mom, watching yourself perform on videotape so you can learn, and going to the bathroom to put lipstick on when you have a man in your bed. It doesn't make a lot of sense and it also took place way too early in the morning for this kind of thing, but maybe this is the kind of clip that goes best with a couple of Manhattans after 5. I guess I'll know soon enough. (I'm getting drunk.)

Access Hollywood
Gaga, Oprah; Oprah, Gaga
January 15th 2010 at 3:53pm by JulieKlausner

Lady Gaga appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" yesterday, and the two of them mostly talked about what it's like to be so down to earth. Haha! No they didn't. Mostly, the two gals with "ah" sounds at the end of their respective names talked about Gaga's process and the inspiration behind some of her most infamous looks, like her bloody "VMA" costume, which was apparently inspired by Princess Diana. They didn't touch on the look she debuted recently on "Access Hollywood," so I'm just going to say she thought of it while watching "Dr. Strangelove," drinking a cocktail that had one of those little umbrellas in them.

As far as credibility is concerned, I believed Gaga when she told Oprah that she was one of her idols, but when she confessed to being a "secret foodie" and eating fried chicken before the taping, I had to make sure I was hearing her properly. Doesn't Gaga not eat? Maybe she misunderstood the question and thought Oprah was asking her whether she was interested in wearing a coat made out of fried chicken. Come to think of it, I'd be pretty interested in wearing a coat like that, too. It sounds warm and delicious!

Lady Gaga Can't Help "Launch My Line" Eliminee #5: Marilyn Crawford Q&A
January 7th 2010 at 11:29am by TaraAriano

Marilyn Crawford is an accomplished marketing CEO whose interest in fashion led her to become a contestant on "Launch My Line." And while last night's episode (in full, above) featured the high of a guest appearance by Lady Gaga, the low for Marilyn involved her balky expert, Coco, and the way their divergent visions for an avant-garde garment inspired by a pair of sunglasses resulted in Marilyn's elimination. After the jump, Marilyn discusses her background, her management style, and how her experience working with Coco wasn't like its portrayal on the show -- "It was ten times worse."

How Do I Look
Purple-Wearing Woman Is Cruelly Forced To Change Her Ways
January 4th 2010 at 1:36pm by JulieKlausner

Do you guys know that poem, "When I am an Old Woman, I Shall Wear Purple"? It's not a dirty limerick, but it's still pretty important, if only because the Red Hat Society has adopted it as a manifesto. And the Red Hat Society, for those of you who don't know, is pretty much the original version of "Cougar Town," only more whimsical, and instead of shtupping young bucks, they mostly get together and go to museums at a discounted group rate.

Anyway, in this episode of Style Network's "How Do I Look?," a woman who is by no means old insists on wearing only purple clothing, down to her violet bra. And good for her, right? Wrong! Because, as we find out soon enough into the episode, it turns out that she is not Prince. And according to fashion expert Jeannie Mai, non-Prince humans can't wear all purple clothing without being subjected to Mai telling them they look like "walking eggplant[s]," and then, getting made over against their will. More on this clip, and more about Prince, after the jump!

"Launch My Line" Eliminees Vanessa Gonzalez and Tressa Williams Q&A
December 24th 2009 at 1:50pm by CharlotteCowles

Sadly (and against my prediction), the platinum-banged Vanessa Gonzalez was cut from "Launch My Line" this week, one week before Lady Gaga makes her shoulder-padded appearance. Vanessa's final piece, a metallic gold minidress, was inspired by a nude model (yep, naked as a jaybird), drew fire from Dean and Dan for "accentuating" the hip area with large pockets. We chatted with Vanessa and her "expert," Tressa, about their final episode, after the jump.

Lady Gaga To Appear on "Launch My Line," May Cause Vanessa To Have a Coronary
December 22nd 2009 at 6:18pm by CharlotteCowles

We may be the only ones who have been watching "Launch My Line" (and kind of liking it, despite its premise being far-fetched and random), but get ready for its ratings to shoot skyward on January 6th, when Lady Gaga makes an on-set appearance to "inspire" the designers. (Please note that the previous assigned inspirations have been Venice Beach, jellyfish, and wild animals, so Lady Gaga actually fits right in).

I'm sure the whole cast will be appropriately starstruck, but there is absolutely no telling what designer contestant Vanessa Gonzales will do when she comes face to face with the pop star -- although it's safe to assume she'll hyperventilate, cry, and then design something totally heinous. See why, after the jump.

Saturday Night Live
MTV Names Lady Gaga "Woman of the Year"
December 21st 2009 at 1:36pm by HannahLawrence

If you were in the music business, how would you know if you'd really made it? (Hint: it's a two-parter, like strawberry shortcake!) First, you'd know you were golden if MTV News named you "Woman of the Year." That's impressive and all, but when the people who play Sims take a break to recreate one of your music videos, instead of purposely starving their sims or forcing them to swim in pools with no ladders until they drown, you'd really know you were home free.

So you can imagine how happy I am that MTV (and nerds) picked Lady Gaga as this year's superstar by doing both! On Saturday, MTV people sat down with Lady Gaga and spoke to her about her year of mind-blowing performances and really rad garb (proof of such garb is above, when she appeared on "Saturday Night Live" as the musical guest). Of the honor, the Lady said it makes her want to work harder and make better music and videos, which means all you haterz better jump on the Gaga train before it becomes an elite party and you're too scrawny to get past the bouncer. Hit "continue reading" to relive some of the year's best Gaga, in addition to seeing one nerd's interpretation of "Bad Romance."

Editors' Best of 2009: Tara's Top Ten
December 11th 2009 at 6:13am by TaraAriano

As the year draws to a close, it's time for each of your editors to look back, reflect, and choose the best things we watched, read, heard, or consumed in 2009. Getting my original list down to just ten selections was a soul-searching struggle (sorry, "Mad Men"!), but I think this truly does represent all my favorite pop-culture products of the year. Check it out after the jump.

Barbara Walters and Her "10 Most Fascinating People" Are More "Interesting" Than "Fascinating"
December 10th 2009 at 2:32pm by HannahLawrence

Last night, Barbara Walters' "10 Most Fascinating People of 2009" special aired on ABC. She is proud of her selections and calls it the most "provocative" group of people she's ever had. Watch the clip above from "The View" to hear her thoughts on her interview with the fifth most fascinating person, and click "continue reading" to see who else rounded out the list (but maybe shouldn't have).

American Music Awards: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
November 23rd 2009 at 12:20pm by HannahLawrence

Last night, the American Music Awards aired on ABC, and if you're like me, you don't really care about who won. (If you do, click here.) Instead, you care about the performances, because that's when artists can enter Bizarro World without agents or producers telling them to stop for the sake of their future record sales. Above, Adam Lambert tells "Access Hollywood" that the concept of his new video, "For Your Entertainment," is an expression of not being restrained, and some of the artists that performed this year also pushed the envelope considerably. Others, however, seemed comfortable resting on their haunches in badness. Highlights of the good, the bad, and the ugly are after the jump.
