Tonight on "24": Kamistanis Only Understand Revenge -- Just Like Unstable CTU Agents
January 25th 2010 at 5:00pm by RobbTodd

The clock is ticking tonight on "24" as world peace, nuclear annihilation, philandering/murderous politicians, moronic security chiefs, and green-screened hot dog vendors hang in the balance. More after the jump.

Late Night Last Night: Andre Agassi Says Goodbye to His '80s Mullet, Letterman's "Top Ten" Has No Category, and Andy Richter Verifies Carrie Prejean's Sex Tape
November 12th 2009 at 11:25am by HannahLawrence

Tennis superstar Andre Agassi has a new memoir out called "Open," in which he reveals that he suffered from an addiction to crystal meth, and that puffy '80s mullet he sported during the 1990 French Open was actually a hairpiece (seen above, in all its lioness glory). In fact, Andre lost that final match to Andrés Gómez because he kept worrying that it would fall off his head. So last night, David Letterman gave Andre a brief opportunity to say goodbye to the wig that caused him so much grief. Watch the clip above to see these two friends reunite, and hit "continue reading" for a full recap of last night's late night TV.

Wes Anderson Plays the Fox
October 6th 2009 at 4:22pm by ChrisBernier

In a brilliant stroke of method directing for the animation age, a recent behind-the-scenes featurette on "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" reveals that Wes Anderson simulated the entire movie by performing each role himself. The animation team then used Wes's home-movie incarnations as a template for constructing the film's scenes.

Even the staunchest Wes-heads have expressed reservations about "Mr. Fox." I am not a lover of his last film, "The Darjeeling Limited," but still believe that a half-baked Anderson movie is better than most, and this report about his heavy lifting is a good sign. We know that Anderson is meticulous, but sometimes gets caught up in the culture surrounding his films (read: he shouldn't write a movie with Jason Schwartzman and Roman Coppola again), so maybe working with miniatures instead of live actors is what he needed to get his verve back.

Either way: the Wes-centric version is the stuff of grand DVD bonus features.

Watch "Bored to Death" Pilot Now
September 17th 2009 at 4:40pm by MattHimes

HBO doesn't premiere the new Jason Schwartzman/Zach Galifanakis/Ted Danson private-detective comedy "Bored to Death" (trailer above) until Sunday. However, we've done a bit of amateur sleuthing ourselves and have discovered a nefarious plot to disseminate the hilarity ahead of schedule! Shockingly, you can watch the pilot now, on HBO on Demand.

But it goes deeper than that. You can also watch it for free on Fancast, iTunes, and Amazon. Warning: it is a diabolically tangled web of deadpan jokes about dipsomania, neck tattoos, underemployed artists, and Israeli movers.

"Funny People," In a Nutshell: From the Bullpen
August 6th 2009 at 3:25pm by WillEdmondson

[13:28] Tara Ariano: This was the first movie that we were going to recap together but watch separately (since I'm still in California), and I have to say, it just wasn't the same.
[13:29] Will Edmondson: Oh, hi Tara. Glad I could catch you between your manicure and pedicure to talk about Big Movie Wednesday. Can you see the screen, or are there cucumber slices in your way?
[13:29] Tara Ariano: I am a professional. I only need one eye.
[13:30] Will Edmondson: Good to know. But no, after watching all two and a half hours of "Funny People," I can see why you'd need a spa day. That movie was an undertaking. But I still enjoyed most of it.
[13:30] Tara Ariano: I'm not actually at the spa, you know. The TCA Press Tour is still happening. I ducked out last night so see it, and I'm drained.
[13:31] Will Edmondson: (ALLEGEDLY.)

Jason Segel, Jonah Hill, and Jason Schwartzman Will Star in "The Adventurer's Handbook"
August 5th 2009 at 5:05pm by HannahLawrence

Since Jason Segel, Jonah Hill, and Jason Schwartzman have all been in good movies recently, one can only assume that a movie starring all of them would be really good, right? "Lonely Island" member and "Saturday Night Live" writer Akiva Schaffer sure hopes so, because he will be directing all of them in "The Adventurer's Handbook."

The movie is based on Mick Conefrey's book of the same name, and will feature Segel, Hill, and Schwartzman as three childhood friends who decide to travel the world to spice up their boring lives. Hill will play an engineer (which seems like a stretch), while Schwartzman's cast as an obnoxious three-time Grammy winner (which I take as a Phantom Planet dream sequence). If Segel's role -- a talented musician who never made it big -- seems familiar, it's because you may have seen it already...twice. Once in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," and again in the above clip from "How I Met Your Mother."

Wes Anderson Debuts His "Fantastic Mr. Fox" Trailer
July 31st 2009 at 5:41pm by WillEdmondson

You probably know Wes Anderson from his quirky, serious movies like "The Royal Tennenbaums," "The Life Aquatic," or "The Darjeeling Limited" (clip above). But now Anderson's trying his hand at the "adorable kids' movie" genre -- like fellow quirky directors Spike Jonze and Tim Burton have already -- with an adaptation of "Fantastic Mr. Fox." Anderson's adapted the classic Roald Dahl story in stop motion animation, and called on a-listers George Clooney and Meryl Streep to voice Mr. Fox and his wife. His favorite cast members Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, and Owen Wilson also voice characters.

And, I'm pretty sure that after "Where the Wild Things Are," the "Fantastic Mr. Fox" trailer is my favorite one this year. Hit "continue reading" below to see it.

HBO Shows Us That Premium Cable Means Premium Panels: 2009 TCA Summer Press Tour
July 31st 2009 at 2:41am by TaraAriano

Larry David makes his first-ever visit to "The Tonight Show" above (the rest of the interview is here) to promote his starring role in the recent Woody Allen movie, "Whatever Works." But today, he was promoting the work for which we know him best: "Curb Your Enthusiasm." (Fine: after "Seinfeld," second-best.) And I got to ask him a question! Find out more about that -- plus panels on "Hung," new series "Bored to Death," Obama campaign documentary "By the People," and Robin Williams's forthcoming standup special -- after the jump.

"Bored to Death" Trailer Online
June 18th 2009 at 12:21pm by MattHimes

I've been seeing a lot of Jason "I like your nurse's uniform, guy" Schwartzman in my Brooklyn neighborhood these past few months. (My 16-month-old daughter met him, by the way.) After a little investigation, I deduced that he was busy shooting his upcoming HBO series, "Bored to Death." This conclusion was corraborated by a sighting of "Bored" creator Jonathan Ames.

Now, I am happy to report, HBO has released a funny trailer for "Bored to Death," which seems to promise plenty of Zach Galifanakis and (I hope) zero sexy vampires.
