TLC has signed up Kate Gosselin for a new reality series that will feature her "trying new things" without Jon or her brood, TheWrap.com reports. The reality star and her new litter of hair extensions has been reclaimed by the network "because they are worried if they don't do it with Kate, someone else will," according to a shady-sounding unnamed source.
The new show, which is slated to debut in late spring/early summer, will supposedly have an "interactive" factor in which viewers can suggest new challenges revolving around Kate trying various different professions. I'm picturing something kind of like "The Simple Life," only set on a farm for one week, then a restaurant the next, and perhaps a hardware store after that. I'm sure there will be plenty of fame-mongering businesses that would love to have her around. No fashion-related jobs, please, though -- for all our sakes.
The show is unnamed as of yet, but hopefully will be titled something like, "Kate For Hire," or "Working Mother of Eight," or "Jon Doesn't Pay Child Support." I'm going to make a totally wild prediction that the series ends with Kate getting "challenged" to host her own talk show, and then...she gets hired! Pure conjecture, though.
Neil Patrick Harris, actor/singer/mom-pleaser-extraordinaire, is on the roster of this season's "American Idol" guest judges! The "How I Met Your Mother" star sat in on auditions in Dallas this week, Texas, to lend his performing expertise to "Idol"-hopefuls. He hosted this year's Tony Awards in June, and will also host the Emmy Awards on September 20, one day before the fifth season premiere of "How I Met Your Mother." Clearly, the man's on fire -- I bet he even shows up on time for meetings.
For a sampling of Neil's smorgasboard of comedic, vocal, and dramatic talents, watch the clip above.
Despite pigeon sounds, splitting pants, and being forced to make clothes for "real women," the contestants only played supporting roles in "The Fashion Show," which has its finale next week. The true star of the show? Isaac Mizrahi, who hoarded that spotlight like a squirrel with acorns. Thankfully, he's a compelling character (in the above video, he says he learned to sew at age 14 by making puppets, which he then used in his own traveling puppet show). And since he co-hosted with Kelly Rowland, whose only function was to wear cute outfits, he had plenty of air time to cover.
In anticipation of the season finale, I have gathered an all-star collection of Mizrahi's finest moments of the series. Enjoy, after the jump.
continue readingMystery was in the air this weekend -- particularly among the dragons and magic wands in the premiere of "Merlin" (above). The series began with the young sorcerer's arrival in Camelot just in time for King Uther to outlaw magic. But when a strange plague has citizens dropping like flies, the King had to go back on his word and enlist Merlin's powers. Wait a second...plagues and royalty? Does this plotline sound familiar?
Speaking of mysteries, Kendra and Hank swung by Roswell's UFO Museum on "Kendra"; "Harper's Island" revealed Abby's true father; and Shiloh went dark on "Kings." Also mystifying (and slightly magical) was my silent alarm clock this morning, which allowed me to sleep peacefully into my Monday. Ah, another week begins. Our roundup of the weekend's television is after the jump.
continue readingVivica Fox was seen at a "business meeting" for her forthcoming clothing line in New York yesterday, reports the Daily News. What kind of duds can we expect from the former host of "Glam God"? Well, no info has been released yet, but when we talked to her a few months ago, she was all about keeping her closet cougar-tastic: "The animal print has definitely made a comeback. My bathing suit and my cover-ups -- all animal print." Meow.
Blonde, leggy supermodel Kim Alexis has over 500 magazine covers, including six Sports Illustrated swimsuit editions, to show for her '80s glory days. She is now a 49-year-old mother of five, and host of TV Land's reality series "She's Got the Look," a modeling competition show for contestants aged 35 and up. The show's second season begins on June 11, and contestants range from Delores, a 72-year-old African-American woman, to Cindy, a 39-year-old formerly homeless mother. Kim chatted with Sling.com editor Charlotte Cowles about the modeling world ("It's a business of discrimination"), the cougar phenom ("I don't know any of those women"), and plastic surgery ("Like a stroll in the park"). continue readingCraig Ferguson has gotten to enjoy some time in the spotlight recently, what with Conan's hiatus from the late-night scene and the whole Paulina vs. Tyra thing. But now Conan is back, and newbie Jimmy Fallon has finally found his groove with slow jams and head swaps. Now Craig is scrabbling to keep his hold on channel-surfing night-owls -- and what better way to do so than enlisting Jimmy Fallon himself for a lil' nude on-camera action? Keep you friends close, and your enemies uncomfortably closer.
In 2009, Hugh Jackman is an Oscar host (about whom not everyone is entirely confident), and soon to star in his own superhero spinoff movie. But back in 2001, his profile was so low he had to be the third banana in "Someone Like You." If you don't remember it, possibly it's because its title is so generic you've confused it with "Something's Gotta Give" or "Something To Talk About" or "Something New." Now it's a cute glimpse at a time when Ashley Judd could headline movies in which her supposedly dead ex-husband wasn't trying to kill her. You're not doing anything else today -- watch the full movie, above.
