"Glee" Lands Molly Shannon
February 10th 2010 at 2:38pm by TaraAriano

You'd think that, in the first thirteen episodes of "Glee," Sue Sylvester made enough enemies to last most fictional characters a lifetime. But the show's producers evidently don't agree: the news just hit that the latest high-profile guest star to join the show is Molly Shannon, who'll play a McKinley High astronomy teacher/badminton coach who, naturally, clashes with Sue, because everyone clashes with Sue. Though Michael Ausiello's write-up on the casting doesn't say whether Shannon will sing, she has plenty of experience in putting on a show. Above, see a sketch featuring Shannon as her classic "Saturday Night Live" character, high school student Mary Katherine Gallagher, as she tries out for a talent show, which suggests that "Glee" should be right in her wheelhouse; after the jump, more evidence that Shannon should be able to handle whatever the "Glee" producers throw at her.

Late Night Last Night: Jimmy Fallon Covers "Glee," Letterman Rips NBC (Some More), and "The Daily Show" Covers Last Week's GOP "Q&O"
February 2nd 2010 at 10:50am by TaraAriano

"Glee" hasn't aired a new episode in nearly two months, but now there's a way for us to fill the space it left in our hearts, apart from watching the cast and producers on all the award shows they're sweeping: "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" has created its own take on the subject matter, with "6-bee." See it above, hope that the intention is for it to become a recurring segment (in the tradition of "The Real Housewives of Late Night"), and click "continue reading" for the rest of last night's late-night highlights.

Jennifer Lopez To Guest-Star on "How I Met Your Mother"
January 27th 2010 at 4:33pm by CharlotteCowles

The name Jennifer Lopez brings to mind a lot of things. Hoop earrings, obviously, and the curvy "Glow by J-Lo" perfume bottle that seems to be wearing a diamond belly-chain.

A few things that she doesn't remind me of include smoky Irish bars in New York City, corporate lawyers, and Neil Patrick Harris. But that's all about to change! J.Lo has just confirmed that she's going to be guest-starring on "How I Met Your Mother" this March. There's no word yet as to the character she'll play, but there are also rumors that she'll be appearing on "Glee" as well (singing and/or doing some kind of dance number, I hope). Her rapidly expanding repertoire is obviously meant to create some buzz around her new album, "Love," which drops in April.

I have a few guesses about her "HIMYM" character, after the jump.

"Glee" Continues Winning Every Possible Award
January 25th 2010 at 3:30pm by TaraAriano

In the clip above, various members of the "Glee" cast recount -- with typical humility and grace -- their reactions to the news of their four Golden Globe nominations. It's possible they're a bit cockier now, as "Glee" becomes an unstoppable award juggernaut. A rundown of their recent hardware acquisitions is after the jump.

5 More TV Failures To Add To This List of Famous TV Failures
January 22nd 2010 at 5:51pm by JulieKlausner

To commemorate the waking nightmare known as the recent Late Night debacle, Entertainment Weekly's Dalton Ross went on "The Early Show" this morning to discuss some of TV history's other most notable failures, like Fox canceling "Family Guy" before DVD sales made it a behemoth, and NBC giving Jay Leno a 10 PM show. With respect to Ross -- even though he had the nerve to make fun of "Troop Beverly Hills" in the above clip -- I'd like to add a few of my own complaints about how TV has done me wrong. My top five failures in TV history are after the jump!

Neil Patrick Harris to Guest on "Glee" -- But Who Else Should Follow His Lead?
January 19th 2010 at 3:56pm by TaraAriano

Fans of "Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog" were thrilled this fall to learn that its creator, Joss Whedon, would direct an upcoming episode of "Glee" -- but the story just got even more awesome: Michael Ausiello reports that Whedon's episode will also feature an extremely special guest star: Neil Patrick Harris (seen above headlining a musical number at his day job). And when you think about it, we probably should have predicted this: not only did Harris and Whedon collaborate on the aforementioned "Horrible" (in which Harris played the titular doctor), but Harris is just the latest Broadway star to land in Lima: Kristin Chenoweth already appeared in Episode 5, while her "Wicked" co-star Idina Menzel is set to appear in the back nine episodes as the coach of McKinley's sworn rivals, Vocal Adrenaline. Olivia Newton-John is scheduled. Jennifer Lopez may share an episode with Madonna. Since there is apparently no one in Hollywood who could stand to refuse an offer, we decided to make our own wish list. See it after the jump.

Hakas: The Closest Sports Get to "Glee"?
January 18th 2010 at 5:00pm by WillEdmondson

Last night, "60 Minutes" did a story on youth football programs in American Samoa, which included the clip above. In it, a bunch of fearsome teenagers perform a haka, a traditional Māori posturing dance meant to intimidate enemies on the battlefield. You're probably familiar with the New Zealand All Blacks' versions before rugby matches; if you aren't, check out their version before a match with Tonga in 2003, below. Tonga matches the Blacks' with a dance of their own, dueling banjos style. it's pretty cool:

So while dancing is a legitimate form of intimidation in the South Pacific, here in America, it's, well, mockable. There is one notable exception, however. Let's take a look at it, after the jump.

"American Idol's" Latest Crazy Craze: "Pants on the Ground"
January 14th 2010 at 1:54pm by WillEdmondson

Hey, have you guys heard of this show on Fox where people sing karaoke covers of the hits of today and yesterday in front of people who really like drinking Coca-Cola? Just kidding, of course you've heard of "Glee." But in case you missed last night's "American Idol" (which took place in Atlanta, above), you should really know about the show's latest crazy craze: "Pants on the Ground."

You're familiar with "Idol's" past crazies, and their leader, William Hung. But this season's crazy du jour's name is General Larry Platt, and his rallying cry is a heartfelt plea to get the "fools" of America to pull their pants off the ground. The 62-year-old performer somehow managed to sneak in past the show's 28-year-old age limit, but this guy's talent is ageless. Let's all look out for General Platt; Atlanta hasn't been on fire like this since that other general's March to the Sea. (Too soon for a Civil War reference?) Hit "continue reading" to learn why you need buy a belt.

"Glee" In Real Life: Not So Good!
January 12th 2010 at 10:49am by WillEdmondson

Do you ever dream that "Glee" was a true story, and that you went to school in that story? Jocks and drama geeks alike would spontaneously break into song, dance fighting would be the conflict resolution of choice (like "West Side Story"! With snapping!), and you'd reward your teachers' earnest pep talks with musical numbers (above). Your sports teams would also get crushed, week after week.

Well, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but one high school decided to try their hand at "Glee"-ing out, and it was life imitating art...very poorly! At their graduation, a group of students took it upon themselves to cover "Don't Stop Believin'," and because we live in a society that rewards artists for taking chances without risk of humiliation, a clip of it was uploaded to the Internet. Don't feel too bad for them, everyone was very happy to hear the performance, and cheered very loudly! Though then again, they could be cheering never having to go back to that high school again. We may never truly know, but hit "continue reading" to see the performance after the jump.

"Glee" Gets a Second Season
January 11th 2010 at 12:03pm by TaraAriano

Fox has just announced the renewal of its hit musical, "Glee," for a second season. Granted, it's not the most shocking TV news to come down the pike -- after all, it's not like Fox is arranging ten-city tours for the stars of, say, "Fringe," whereas there are a bunch of the "Glee" kids in the clip above, meeting fans on their Magical Gleek Tour. Nevertheless, it's still a relief to fans who may feel that in light of certain late-night shake-ups, it's hard to count on ANYTHING in the TV industry. More after the jump.
