"Green Zone": From the Bullpen
March 12th 2010 at 12:19pm by WillEdmondson

As we mentioned previously, last week Tara and I caught an advance screening of "Green Zone," or as I've lovingly retitled it, "The Bourne Iraq-ity." And, since this is 2010 and we live in a world of wonder, we've broken from tradition and recorded a podcast of our thoughts instead of our normal transcribed IM conversation. Be advised, there are a few SPOILERS in the podcast above, for which I apologize. What can I say -- suspenseful action movies set in war zones excite me. Please enjoy, and check back next week to vote in the poll for the next movie Tara and I review in our Movie Monday series.

"Alice in Wonderland": From the Bullpen
March 9th 2010 at 1:27pm by WillEdmondson

11:56:36 AM Tara Ariano: We've seen "A Christmas Carol." We've seen "The Wolfman." And with last night's "Alice in Wonderland," I think that's going to be it for Victorian England for a while.
11:57:28 AM Will Edmondson: Yeah, imagine how cranky you would've been if we'd seen "Sherlock Holmes"!
11:57:48 AM Tara Ariano: I had the pleasure of seeing that with my parents. I think my dad only snored a little.
11:59:12 AM Will Edmondson: At least this wasn't really Victorian England. Victorian England on an acid trip, maybe. Tim Burton really ran with the ball on this one.

"Alice in Wonderland": 2010's 7th "Monday Movie"
March 5th 2010 at 4:10pm by WillEdmondson

We asked you to vote on what movie Tara and I will have to see next week, and the results are in:

"Alice in Wonderland": 61%

"Brooklyn's Finest": 11%

"Shutter Island": 28%

In a landslide, next week's movie will be the Tim Burton adaptation of "Alice in Wonderland"! A very merry unbirthday to us, indeed. "Shutter Island" put up a valiant fight, but my guess is that once our readers found out "Alice" was in 3D, it was all over. Thanks for playing, "Brooklyn's Finest," third prize is your fired. Look for our "Alice in Wonderland" recap next week, and stay tuned for a special announcement about the 8th "Monday Movie." Thanks for voting!

Movie Monday 7: Pick the Movie Will and Tara Will Have to See
March 2nd 2010 at 5:24pm by WillEdmondson

Last week, you voted for Tara and me to see "Cop Out," and now that we've recapped it, we're on to the next one. This week, we've got an obvious frontrunner in the poll, which you may have picked up on based on the enormous thumbnail, above. Let's go through the looking glass (GET IT?), and see the other nominees, after the jump.

"Cop Out": From the Bullpen
March 2nd 2010 at 12:53pm by WillEdmondson

11:07:50 AM Will Edmondson: Tara, per our readers' mandate, we saw "Cop Out" last night, and I, for one, feel pretty okay about it.
11:08:19 AM Tara Ariano: I didn't have especially high expectations for it (quite the contrary, in fact), but I was pleasantly surprised!
11:09:02 AM Will Edmondson: You seemed to be dreading it!
11:09:19 AM Tara Ariano: It was getting pretty horrendous reviews (like Richard Roeper's, above), so I had cause.
11:10:22 AM Will Edmondson: Yeah, and we'll get to that later, because wow, some people do not like Kevin Smith!

"The Wolfman": From the Bullpen
February 23rd 2010 at 12:31pm by WillEdmondson

11:03:31 AM Will Edmondson: Last week, our wonderful readers had a choice between two "spooky, scary" movies, Tara. And they chose to eschew Marty Scorsese's "Shutter Island" in favor of "The Wolfman." Your thoughts on this choice?
11:04:03 AM Tara Ariano: It's not the one I would have predicted, that is for sure.
11:05:58 AM Will Edmondson: Well, yes, and I was initially concerned about this recap. I thought it was going to be four "Werewolf Bar Mitzvah" jokes and maybe a comment or two about how Anthony Hopkins and Benicio Del Toro do look rather "wolfish." But there is so much more to talk about!

Giant Bunny Dominates the U.K.: From the Bullpen
February 19th 2010 at 3:47pm by TaraAriano

3:19:04 PM Tara Ariano: I feel like we've all gotten past the fear that Britain is going to rise again as an imperial power, but today "The Early Show" made me wonder whether the U.S. can compete in one key arena: bunny domination.
3:20:07 PM Julie Klausner: I don't think there's any wondering left to do: The UK has cornered us in the "gigantic rabbit" department and we are powerless in its wake!
3:20:49 PM Tara Ariano: Wasn't this basically the exact plot of that "Wallace & Gromit" movie? With the were-rabbit? Because the so-called bunny in the clip above clearly wishes humans ill, or why would it have decided to get so big?
3:21:23 PM Julie Klausner: Wait a minute. Why do you think that bunny hates people? Because it's huge? That's just more bunny for hugging!
3:21:44 PM Tara Ariano: That's what people said about King Kong!
3:21:54 PM Julie Klausner: Really? I thought they just said "AWJHGLAJGRASLJGSALJDGH!!!!"
3:22:02 PM Tara Ariano: They did after they realized they shouldn't have tried to hug him.

"The Wolfman": 2010's (Second) Fifth "Monday Movie"
February 19th 2010 at 12:45pm by TaraAriano

As we explained, our last "Fifth Monday Movie" had to be scrubbed due to illness on Will's part, but you all came out in force to determine our SECOND Fifth Monday Movie. To the results!

"Dear John": 25%

"Shutter Island": 30%

"The Wolfman": 45%

That's a late surge for our winning movie; "Shutter Island" had been leading all week, until yesterday. Thanks for your votes, and look out for our recap of "The Wolfman" Tuesday.
