Kate Gosselin Gets New TLC Show Without Kids or Husband
January 13th 2010 at 1:41pm by CharlotteCowles

TLC has signed up Kate Gosselin for a new reality series that will feature her "trying new things" without Jon or her brood, TheWrap.com reports. The reality star and her new litter of hair extensions has been reclaimed by the network "because they are worried if they don't do it with Kate, someone else will," according to a shady-sounding unnamed source.

The new show, which is slated to debut in late spring/early summer, will supposedly have an "interactive" factor in which viewers can suggest new challenges revolving around Kate trying various different professions. I'm picturing something kind of like "The Simple Life," only set on a farm for one week, then a restaurant the next, and perhaps a hardware store after that. I'm sure there will be plenty of fame-mongering businesses that would love to have her around. No fashion-related jobs, please, though -- for all our sakes.

The show is unnamed as of yet, but hopefully will be titled something like, "Kate For Hire," or "Working Mother of Eight," or "Jon Doesn't Pay Child Support." I'm going to make a totally wild prediction that the series ends with Kate getting "challenged" to host her own talk show, and then...she gets hired! Pure conjecture, though.

Andy Kindler Has Advice for College Grads (Just Like Everyone Else Does)
June 23rd 2009 at 11:11am by HannahLawrence

Last night on the "Late Show with David Letterman," Andy Kindler talked to some recent college graduates, offering them advice on how to get a job in today's poor job climate. Having just graduated a little over a month ago myself, and somehow having managed to solidify some form of employment (BIG shoutout to my BFFs, Will and Tara! Do you guys want some coffee and scones or something? Do your keyboards need dusting?), I feel as though I'm in a position to share some more techniques that might help my job-hunting peers. My tips are after the jump.

George W. Bush Spurns Legitimate Job Offer Like A Common Welfare Mother Or Something!
February 23rd 2009 at 2:38pm by TaraAriano

I guess we're supposed to think the "lighter side"-style news item above is cute and inconsequential -- a hardware store in George W. Bush's new town (Dallas) offered the former president a job as a greeter, which he has apparently declined. Now, some will say that it was never a sincere offer -- that the store was just trying to get publicity (successfully) -- and that such a position would be beneath Bush's station as a former world leader. But come on: what else is he doing? I have to think the speaking-engagement opportunities for someone generally regarded as this country's worst president are few. Writing a book? I just don't see it. I kind of doubt he's going to spend much time reading books. Frankly, as a taxpayer, I would like to see him show a little fiscal responsibility by turning down his taxpayer-provided benefits and paying his expenses by doing a little honest work for a change. And I actually think he could be much better in a job where all he has to do is smile and welcome people. It's probably what he should have been doing for the past eight years.

The Real Housewives of Orange County
Raquel's Career Plans
January 8th 2009 at 4:48pm by CharlotteCowles

In this clip from "The Real Housewives of Orange County," Lynne's daughter Raquel discusses potential jobs she could take on to pay for gas (presumably so that she can drive to school before dawn). Raquel will have some trouble finding work, though, because she says that she doesn't like to touch useful objects like doors or phones. When her man valiantly suggests some options, Raquel shoots him down: "I don't like the restaurant business, I don't like the clothing business, I don't like any of that."

Raquel finally gets real and wistfully admits that she's a bit lost in her career goals. "Right now I'm not really sure what I want to do as far as my future goes," she says. "I was thinking about going to beauty college for skin care, but I'm not sure yet."

When it comes down to it, though, homegirl is sure about the important things in life: ice cream.
