Michael Bay's Victoria's Secret Commercial Is Heavy on the Michael Bay
December 8th 2009 at 12:16pm by HannahLawrence

Around this time every year, Victoria's Secret has a massive blowout sale (in addition to the "Victoria's Secret Fashion Show," seen in part, above). It's also when they start relentlessly pushing their newer items, which means even Nickelodeon's 11:30 AM programs are punctuated by commercials of women posing on a bed in glitzy and glamorous non-clothes. But this year, they roped in "Transformers" director Michael Bay to film a super-jacked-up manomercial (after the jump). It's kinda NSFW, unless you work in heavy machinery. In that case, you can get away with it.

December 3rd 2009 at 11:18am by TaraAriano

Yearbook photos, local TV ads, extremely polished off-the-cuff renditions of Van Halen's "Jump" -- WHATEVER. Last night's "Glee" was all about Terri Schuester's "baby" bump, and the truth about it FINALLY coming out. The full recap is after the jump.

NBC Refuses To Air PETA's Thanksgiving Ad
November 24th 2009 at 12:39pm by HannahLawrence

The annual animal cruelty debate has started up again, right on time. While PETA spends the rest of the year convincing celebrities to disrobe in its "Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" campaign, Thanksgiving is when the organization kicks it into high gear...because surviving our disapproving relatives depends on meals built around slaughtered turkeys, and PETA enjoys making us feel bad about it. In fact, last January, PETA made the ad above (a little NSFW). While this particular ad didn't make people feel bad for eating meat, it made NBC executives feel a whole lot of something else they didn't think families watching the Super Bowl would appreciate, and it didn't air.

So it's surprising that NBC would give PETA another chance by asking it to make a commercial to air during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. PETA submitted one, but the network asked it be more informative on the subjects of factory farming and turkey slaughter. So naturally, the pendulum swung and PETA came up with the spot after the jump.

America's Next Top Model
"America's Next Top Model" Cycle 13 Eliminee #8: Rae
October 22nd 2009 at 4:25pm by CharlotteCowles

Bleached-blonde, eyebrow-less Rae was eliminated from "America's Next Top Model" last night after the models were challenged to make a commercial for Cover Girl. Despite nailing her lines (which was more of a challenge for Laura, who's dyslexic, and Erin, who broke down and sobbed uncontrollably), Rae's resulting video was bland and lacked personality. With additional judging from guest Kim Kardashian, the panel voted her off; this afternoon, she spoke with us from her home in Minnesota. See the full interview after the jump.

Britney Spears and Russell Brand's VMA Commercial Could Have Been a Lot Funnier
August 26th 2009 at 4:44pm by CharlotteCowles

Despite Russell Brand's widely-criticized rant at last year's Video Music Awards (see video, above), he's hosting with Britney Spears again on September 13. Today, MTV released a VMA promo video in which Britney and Russell can hear each other's naughty thoughts. It starts off strong and seems to have some hilarity potential, but much like their 2008 commercial, it fizzles into Brand-esque awkwardness at the end. (And yes, Britney's in a white bikini, again.) See it, after the jump.

An Answer for All Your Truck Rental and Storage Needs
December 8th 2008 at 4:11pm by WillEdmondson

There are times in an editor's career when you realize that there is nothing you can say to make a video funnier. This is one of those times. This commercial for "Jones' Big Ass Truck Rental and Storage" is perfect. But: is it real?

The website touted in the video is legitimate, and the number in the video brings you to "Toby Jones'" voicemail, but the website is hosted by a sketch comedy group, and there are no directions or an address for Jones' warehouse. We do know that the number is listed in the 708 area code, so if it does exist, the business is somewhere outside of Chicago. I remain hopeful that this is indeed a real service (I've got some bodies I need to "store somewhere"), but it does seem like it's all too good to be true. Either way, this video is fantastic.
