"Family Guy" Non Sequiturs Explained!: Episode 8-13: "Go Stewie Go"
March 15th 2010 at 2:09pm by WillEdmondson

Last night, "Family Guy" paid homage to "Tootsie," and if that sounds like a weird premise for an episode, it is. But, it did allow for a few silly non sequiturs, and of course, a lot of borderline-offensive ones. You've done it again, Seth MacFarlane! Let's talk about the episode after the jump.

"Family Guy" Non-Sequiturs Explained! Episode 8-12: "Extra-Large Medium"
February 16th 2010 at 1:50pm by WillEdmondson

On Sunday night -- while you were watching the Olympics, probably -- "Family Guy" tried to nose its way into the headlines by airing an episode with many lazy jokes about mentally handicapped people. That's bad enough, but then producers went one step further, as you'll probably be hearing about on Fox News: The show made fun of Trig Palin, Sarah Palin's baby with Down syndrome. As you might imagine, the other non-sequiturs were secondary to that one, but there were (a couple of) funny moments. Let's look and grade all of them, after the jump.

"Family Guy" Non Sequiturs Explained! Episode 8-11: "Dial Meg for Murder"
February 1st 2010 at 10:19am by WillEdmondson

Last night on "Family Guy," Meg fell in love with a convict, Stewie facilitated some love at his "sand retreat," and Peter "fell in love" with a breeding bull. Love was everywhere in the episode, but we don't care about any of that, do we? No, it's all about the non sequiturs, and last night we had some pretty good ones...and one really bad one. Let's explain and grade them, after the jump.

Seth MacFarlane Might Get Fourth Fox Animated Series
January 18th 2010 at 5:27pm by WillEdmondson

There's word on the Internet that at this Winter's TCA meetings, Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly said that "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane might get a fourth primetime animated series on the network. Said Reilly:

"He's stretched thin. We've got one other show we're comtemplating with Seth and looking to broaden our animation brand out too. I love working with the guy, but our plan is not all Seth, all the time. he has something up his sleeve that's animated, so we're going to continue to be in business with him for quite a few years and I think you'll see us to broaden out that brand a little bit."

So yes, a fourth series is no sure thing, but don't be surprised if you see more of that special "MacFarlane" brand of humor touted, above. (Oh, and that horse is supposed to be mentally handicapped, because why not, right Seth?) And don't worry, Mr. MacFarlane, CollegeHumor has some ideas for your next series, after the jump.

"Family Guy" Non Sequiturs Explained! Episode 8-10: "Big Man on Hippocampus"
January 4th 2010 at 1:29pm by WillEdmondson

It's a new year, but it's still the same season of "Family Guy." In last night's episode, the Griffins played "Family Feud"; Peter was overcome by amnesia, and then picked up Tiffani-Amber Thiessen. Now that's an eventful day! But you don't care about that. You want to know about the episode's non sequiturs! Let's talk about them, after the jump.

Family Guy Non Sequiturs Explained! Episode 8-09: "Business Guy"
December 14th 2009 at 4:59pm by WillEdmondson

Last night on "Family Guy," Peter Griffin took over Lois's family's business after Mr. Pewterschmidt had a health crisis. It was a pretty good episode, but we're not here to talk about that. We're here to talk about the non sequiturs, which were pretty great! C'mon, team: Let's explain and grade them, after the jump.

"Family Guy" Non Sequiturs Explained! Episode 8-08: "Dog Gone"
November 30th 2009 at 6:49am by WillEdmondson

Last night on "Family Guy," we were treated to yet another lesson in racial stereotypes: Hispanic housekeepers watch Telemundo, never leave your house, and don't act like their white employers. Oh, and Brian faced a moral conundrum when he hit a dog on his way home from a bar. But that's not all! We also had Chris Matthews making fun of his own forehead, a few "Family Circus" jokes, and even confusion over the regional pronunciation of "PETA" and "Peter." Those and the rest of last night's non sequiturs, explained and graded after the jump.

"Family Guy" Non Sequiturs Explained! Episode 8-07: "Jerome Is the New Black"
November 23rd 2009 at 1:12pm by WillEdmondson

Last night on "Family Guy," Peter and his Bearded Clam drinking cohorts searched for a replacement for Cleveland Brown, who moved from Quahog to 8:30. Of course, because this is a Seth MacFarlane show, the group decides that it needs a black friend, and it just happens to find a blaxploitation character named Jerome at the bar. There are a few story twists, and a lot of formulaic and predictable racist jokes, because come on, the episode is titled "Jerome Is the New Black." Get it? That's a pun.

But I realized something yesterday, and that's that the success of a "Family Guy" episode is not dependent on its storyline, but rather on the famous non sequiturs that fill the space between the "edgy" racist and/or sexist jokes. So this week, let's try something new: Let's rate the episode's non sequiturs, and decode them if necessary. Because let's be honest, kids under 25; do you have any idea who "Mr. Furley" is? Or people over 25, do you know why making a "Kevin Connolly is short" joke is funny? Those and more, explained after the jump.

"Family Guy" Episode 8-06: "Quagmire's Baby"
November 16th 2009 at 1:34pm by WillEdmondson

Remember when "South Park" went after "Family Guy's" non sequiturs and hypothesized that Seth MacFarlane's writing staff was just a bunch of manatees that pushed "idea balls" with their noses? Well, last night the manatees earned their lettuce (how else would you pay them?), because that bit about Fred Flintstone's wild police chase was hilarious. But, the "main" plotline of the episode -- Glen Quagmire discovering a baby on his doorstep -- was not. Let's talk about it, after the jump.

"Family Guy" Episode 8-04: "Hannah Banana"
November 9th 2009 at 3:34pm by WillEdmondson

While "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane was busy with his horrible, unfunny, very bad comedy special, his first series managed to squeak out a pretty good episode last night. The show skewered "Hannah Montana" and, in the process, the other Disney-produced tween robots that will control the Earth in two or three years. It also managed to expose the nationwide epidemic of evil, closet-dwelling monkeys. The silent killer! Full recap after the jump.
