Will Arnett Returns to "30 Rock" Tonight
October 22nd 2009 at 1:39pm by WillEdmondson

Will Arnett will appear on tonight's episode of "30 Rock," reprising his role as Jack Donaghy's arch-nemesis Devin Banks. Banks, you'll recall, is the smarmy west coast executive known for the scandalously short robe he wore while trying to seduce Kenneth the Page. No word on whether Arnett's appearance will be connected to porn star Savanna Samson's (she'll be playing Liz Lemon's porn alter-ego tonight), but let's hope they do: Maybe "Porn Liz" can be Banks's assistant for an updated version of "Office Magic" (above).

Ellen Page, Alia Shawkat and Har Mar Superstar Team for HBO Pilot
October 8th 2009 at 3:14pm by MattHimes

The coolest Bluth? Definitely Maeby.

Enough with the Michael Cera! Yes, he looks comfortable in a hooded sweatshirt, and he's got a good nervous stammer, but he ain't the only "Arrested Development" alum making moves. Can we take a break and check in with George Michael's kissing cousin, Maeby Fünke?

Good, 'cause the actress who plays her, Alia Shawkat, has teamed up with Cera's "Juno" co-star Ellen Page and the entertainer known as Har Mar Superstar to write the pilot "Stitch N' Bitch" for HBO. As it so often does, The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop:

"The trio will executive produce the project, which follows two painfully cool hipster girls as they relocate from Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood to Los Angeles' Silver Lake enclave in hopes of becoming artists -- of any kind."

No word yet whether those crazy kids Page and Shawkat (who met on the set of "Whip It") will actually be in the thing, but who cares? It sounds like a West Coast girl version of "Bored to Death," and I'm down with that.

"Arrested Development" Movie: They're Actually Writing a Screenplay Now
October 5th 2009 at 1:15pm by MattHimes

That "Arrested Development" movie they keep teasing us with? It's probably really going to happen, despite all the Michael Cera holding out and the David Cross stonewalling. No less an authority than The Hollywood Reporter indicates that "AD" creator Mitchell Hurwitz and co-executive producer James Vallely are writing the script. Just imagine what fresh Bluthian antics are being dreamed up as you read this very post. Can't wait! In the words of Tobias Funke, "This is ripe for parody! This is ripe!"

Michael Cera, Photo Bomber Extraordinaire
September 30th 2009 at 5:41pm by WillEdmondson

Above, Michael Cera (as George-Michael Bluth) does something a little out of character: He tries to track down a fake ID. But maybe this scene from "Arrested Development" is more in line with his real personality, because it turns out that Cera is quite the photo bomber. What's a photo bomber, you ask? As Urban Dictionary describes:

"A photo bomber is someone who either intentionally or unintentionally ruins an otherwise normal photo. The 'photo bomber' will be doing such things as: making faces, gestures, naked, or getting naked, in a costume, or doing some other equally hilarious action." [For illustrations, head here.]

Cera hasn't gone so far as to use nudity or costumes to bomb photos, but his body of work is impressive nonetheless. Hit "continue reading" below for some examples.

Massive TV Interview Archive Reveals Why Fonzie Jumped the Shark, and More
September 16th 2009 at 5:27pm by MattHimes

Post-Fonzie Henry Winkler: Jumping the shark was not his fault.

Know who thought it would be a good idea to have the Fonz water ski-jump over a shark? Henry Winkler's father, that's who! In his defense, his son was a pretty good water skier back in the day.

Anyway, I picked that tidbit up from a Henry Winkler interview I found on the Archive of American Television's massive new website. It's got many, many clips of legendary actors, producers, writers (including such recently-departed luminaries as Don Hewitt and Larry Gelbart) dishing on their experiences in the TV biz. I'd love to write more, but I want to find out what was up with "Cop Rock"!

Charlize Theron Finds Herself Between Two Ferns
September 8th 2009 at 11:24am by TaraAriano

As the clip above demonstrates, the Oscar-winning actor Charlize Theron is not afraid to tackle the darkest, edgiest comedy. But even playing the controversial (hilarious) Rita on "Arrested Development" may not have been adequate preparation for a session of "Between Two Ferns," with Zach Galifianakis. The comic discomfort (including some NSFW language) is after the jump.

David Cross Dishes on "Todd Margaret," "Arrested Development" Movie
September 2nd 2009 at 2:17pm by MattHimes

The Onion's A.V. Club posted an entertaining interview with David Cross today, which reveals the comedian's favorite moment from the movie "The Other Sister," among other things.

What other things? Well, Cross offers these details on his upcoming show for British TV, "The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret":

"The pilot will definitely air, and I should know within the next two or three weeks whether they're going to pick it up and see if it goes to series, which will be six episodes. It's not an ongoing, open-ended story; it has a beginning and an end -- it'll be 12 episodes if everything goes to completion. It’s funny and it’s interesting and it encompasses a lot of different types of comedy. It's about a guy who mistakenly is perceived by this other idiot to be a really good salesman. He's actually a temp at this office in Portland, Oregon who's never been outside of the country, who lies his way into this job where he's sent the next day to London to head up a satellite office of this conglomerate. He's in way over his head. The story is really big and crazy. In fact, the first scene you see, before the credits, is a magistrate reading this list, and he's chained up, and there's armed security behind him, and this magistrate is reading this crazy list of crimes, like terrorism and harboring fugitives and possession of a rape kit. And the guy's beat up and he’s got this thousand-yard stare and it pulls back and the court is screaming, 'Lock him up! Kill him!'"

So that's cool. Also, if you were wondering about that "Arrested Development" movie, here's the latest scoop from Cross:

"I haven't heard anything in months, really. My main source of information is Jason [Bateman], and he hasn't said anything. Usually he's very quick to get on the phone and go, 'Hey, man, here's what's going on.' Who knows?"

There you have it, America!

"Arrested Development" Movie Is Happening, Says Jason Bateman
August 27th 2009 at 11:19am by TaraAriano

You can call off your theater protests, everybody -- no need to make like George-Michael and Egg...er, "Ann" in the clip above. According to "Arrested Development" star Jason Bateman, the movie adaptation of the cult comedy series is still being scripted by creator Mitchell Hurwitz. In an interview with Steve Weintraub of Collider.com, Bateman explains, "I mean, people have guessed and 'rumored' and all that other stuff in all areas of the media....I've always felt bad that I never had more information to give people when they asked me about it, but I guess people kind of got frustrated by that and they just started kind of making up their own sort of 'well, we haven't heard that much' or 'news hasn't changed so it must be going away.'" But is the screenplay still in the process of being written? Said Bateman: "Yes." Phew.

Will Arnett on Board for New Mitch Hurwitz Comedy
August 11th 2009 at 11:59am by RobbTodd

Will Arnett is teaming up with "Arrested Development" cohorts Mitch Hurwitz and Jim Vallely for for a comedy on FOX once again, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Hard to argue with the team that brought us the kind of hilarity in the clip above. (Let's give Hurwitz and Arnett a pass for the short-lived "Sit Down, Shut Up.")

The premise of the new show sounds solid. From HR: "It stars Arnett as a rich Beverly Hills jackass who falls in love with a charitable tree-hugging woman who can't stand his lifestyle or values." Arnett does jackass so well -- as further evidenced by his turn on "30 Rock" -- so this is bound to be good.

Check out a Web-only clip of Arnett after the jump.

"Frisky Dingo" Creator Previews "Archer": 2009 TCA Summer Press Tour
August 8th 2009 at 1:13pm by TaraAriano

Above, a reminder from "Arrested Development" that Jessica Walter has plenty of experience playing the kind of mother who has no problem getting up in her son's business. Soon, FX will bring us Walter's latest take on this character type in "Archer," an animated series from Adult Swim all-star Adam Reed. More on yesterday's "Archer" panel, after the jump.
