Tim Gunn Criticizes Jon Gosselin's Fashion Sense
September 3rd 2009 at 3:07pm by HannahLawrence

Tim Gunn, the Buddha of style and criticism on "Project Runway," finally voiced his opinion on Jon Gosselin's...uh, choices in apparel. Gunn believes Gosselin is committing "the biggest crime against fashion" for men (wearing items in the wrong size), which he says is the result of the "slobification of America." Gunn makes it easy to know if you've come down with a case of it: "if you want to dress in clothes that make you feel as though you never got out of bed, then don't get out of bed."

But Gunn was sympathetic toward Kate and her asymmetrical (re: spikey, beaver-like, 1/3 Anna Wintour bob) haircut. After all, she's with the kids while Jon throws pool parties in Las Vegas and hangs out with a certain celebrity's dad, but at least she still finds time to look for clothes that fit her frame.

Kenley Collins Surfaces After Jail Time with an Idea for a New Reality Show
August 27th 2009 at 4:32pm by TaraAriano

Since spending two days in jail this spring for assaulting her boyfriend, "Project Runway" Season 5 finalist Kenley Collins might think twice before identifying her signature cocktail as a Blood Orange Punch (which you can see her making in the clip above). However, she seems to have come out on the other side of her legal ordeal unscathed -- or, at least, unremorseful. In an interview today on The Daily Beast, Collins tells Elizabeth Gates, "I mean, listen, nobody got hurt. He really just didn't want me to break up with him, that's all. Looking back I'm like, 'Huh? Did that really happen?'"

As for what she's doing now, Collins says, "Jail inspired me!" She came out of the pokey and designed a line she intends to show next month at New York Fashion Week. She's also working on a new reality show about her life, though it "hasn't yet found a television home." Given her comportment during her season of "Runway" (and...er, since), that Collins hasn't made the connections necessary to launch such an endeavor is a real surprise.

"Project Runway" Judge Nina Garcia Thinks Fashion Trends are "Ugh"
August 20th 2009 at 12:36pm by HannahLawrence

Correct me if I'm wrong (even though I'm not), but I think the judges on "Project Runway" love fashion. They wouldn't be in the industry if they didn't, right? Michael Kors craves evocative style, Heidi pictures herself modeling the clothes, and uh...the guest judges are usually famous for doing something else, so this doesn't apply to them.

I knew Nina Garcia was different. As the fashion editor of Marie Claire, she looks for pizzazz and isn't quick to praise a design. But it never occurred to me that a question about a fashion trend could warrant an "ugh" response from her. Is that what I have to look foward to this season of "Project Runway"? "Ughs" instead of critical critiques and suggestions, like we get above? One of the best parts of the show is when all the judges circle up with their note cards and say things like "that jacket is a train wreck" and "those trousers make her look like an amputee." If all Nina has for me is some "ugh"s, then I just might have to mute her.

"Project Runway" Contestants Revealed; Sew Long Bravo, Hello Lifetime
July 9th 2009 at 11:29am by RobbTodd

Will "Project Runway" be the same on Lifetime? Well, the show is set in Los Angeles now, but Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn are still running things; Nina Garcia and Michael Kors are back as judges; producers are trotting out additional celebrity judges (Christina Aguilera and Lindsay Lohan); almost half the contestants are from New York; a few have massive egos; there will be lots of catfights and crying...yeah, sounds like they'll make it work.

"Look out for the girls," Klum told the Associated Press during a break from filming the show's seventh edition in New York. "The girls are very strong on Season 6. There's a lot of crying, there's fighting going on, there's a lot of drama going on -- but especially with the girls."

Watch Gunn have a fierce walk-off with fierce Season 4 winner Christian Siriano in the fierce clip above, then click "continue reading" for the list of this season's fierce contestants.

"Project Runway" Out of Limbo (Unless This Is Harvey Weinstein's Idea of an April Fool's Gag)
April 1st 2009 at 1:27pm by TaraAriano

And I thought I was excited about the return of "Greek"! But this is HUGE! Finally, after months and months of wrangling, "Project Runway" is out of legal limbo. (Thanks to James Poniewozik's Twitter feed for the alert.) Now that we know Lifetime has the right to air the show, I assume we should expect to see the season begin, oh, tonight? Here's hoping Season 6 has as many fun contestants as Season 5 did (above). I still miss Jerrell.

"Project Runway's" Kenley Collins Allegedly Throws Cat, Computer at Her Fiance
March 18th 2009 at 6:19pm by WillEdmondson

Kenley Collins, the crazy "Project Runway" Season 5 contestant straight out of the '50s, was arrested today for assaulting her fiance with the couple's cat. According to police reports, Collins awoke her fiance, Zak Penley (Kenley Penley! HA!), at 7 this morning by throwing the couple's cat at him. She then proceeded to throw her laptop at him before slamming a door on his head. The designer also threw three apples at her boyfriend, and doused him with water, before he was able to dial 911.

Collins -- who reportedly told Penley "you're lucky, it could've been worse" after assaulting him -- had this to say to the New York Post after being released from the Brooklyn Supreme court: "It was a miscommunication. ...Fights happen, and that's that. There's no case."

Tim Gunn To Make The Oscar Red Carpet More Fabulous Than Ever Before
February 12th 2009 at 11:34am by TaraAriano

I didn't think anything could make me more excited about this year's Oscar red carpet (seriously, I'm looking forward to the gowns much more than I am any of the year's snoozy nominees), but ABC has just upped the ante. Tim Gunn is going to host the official red carpet! This is a truly brilliant pairing of host and event: unlike red-carpet mainstay Joan Rivers (soon to be more irrelevant than ever as a contestant on "The Celebrity Apprentice"), Gunn actually knows a lot about fashion. He'll be able to identify designers' work when it shows up on the stars and ask thoughtful and illuminating questions about why they chose the outfits that they did. Also unlike Rivers, Gunn is a courtly gentleman who makes everyone he comes across -- from the Diane Von Furstenbergs and Sarah Jessica Parkers that show up on "Project Runway," to the ordinary ladies he makes over on his own show , to the eccentric "Runway" designers (like Blayne, above) -- seem like the most fascinating person alive. Oscar nominees deserve to feel special and loved on their big night, and a nurturing interview with Tim Gunn will send them to their seats in exactly the right frame of mind.

Gunn isn't the only "Runway" mainstay making news: Jay McCarroll, the first "Runway" winner, is the centerpiece of a new documentary, "Eleven Minutes," set to debut next week. McCarroll is that rare reality-show creature: a certified "character" who reliably drops bon mots that keep your production rolling on AS WELL AS being a really talented artist. I hope the documentary means I can look forward to an affordable McCarroll line at my local Target soon.

They Want To Be A Part Of It
January 29th 2009 at 2:35pm by TaraAriano

According to new research from Pew, you're most likely to want to live in New York if you're young (though Los Angeles will also do in a pinch). It stands to reason that most other demographic groups have soured on the Big Apple: in an economic downturn, your relo wish list might not naturally include the U.S. city with the highest cost of living.

Expenses aside, though, there's so much to love about New York. Who wouldn't want to live someplace where the above display of fabulousness could happen anytime?

Heidi Keeps Hope Alive
December 3rd 2008 at 12:41pm by TaraAriano

The good news for fans of "Project Runway" : Heidi Klum promises that new episodes of the show should start airing in January. The bad news: no one knows where they will actually be. The show's current network (Bravo) and its possible new home (Lifetime) are still wrangling over who has the ultimate rights to the show, and at least one anonymous source expects proceedings to stretch into spring -- well past Mercedes-Benz Olympus Campbell's Soup Chantix New York Fashion Week. (Surely at least one of those companies will still be around in February to sponsor the tents, right?)

Regardless of whether Klum is talking out of her Victoria's Secret-clad ass: I am hereby urging all parties to reach a swift settlement; the world must not wait too long for a new crop of deluded, crusty contestants like "Project Runway" Villain All-Star Kenley, above in all her glory.

"Project Runway" Bridesmaid
October 16th 2008 at 10:00am by RobbTodd

I thought Jarell had a good shot at making the "Project Runway" finals, but alas, he got the boot because of his wedding gown and bridesmade dress. Too bad, because his runway show was really good.
