G4 has greenlit "American Ninja Warrior," a series that will chronicle ten Americans' quests to take on the infamous "Satsuke" obstacle course in Japan. G4 already airs the original "Ninja Warrior" ("Satsuke" in Japan) -- which features homegrown Japanese talent attempting the nearly impossible course -- and it's a phenomenal show (more above). But "American Ninja Warrior" will hold tryouts in Los Angeles to find contestants in the upcoming months, and I'll bet L.A.'s special breed of gym rat/reality show wannabes will make the "Satsuke" course look like Chuck E. Cheese's. (See also: "American Gladiators.")
I've got unrealistically high hopes for this show, because as "Rocky IV" and the Olympics prove, injecting irrational patriotism into an awesome thing just makes it more awesome.
