"Ren & Stimpy": Ren's Zen Meditation on Being Alone
June 8th 2009 at 11:00am by RobbTodd

To live is to suffer, even for a cartoon Chihuahua. Whose life does not resemble Ren's in the clip above? Almost run over by a car, the neighbor's dog in the front yard, pink slip from work, knife in the back. This has happened to us all, and will continue to happen. This is life.

Seeking pleasure in this world is but the deluded craving that leads to suffering. We must detach ourselves. Pleasure is not happiness. To end craving is to end suffering.

"Externally keep yourself away from all relationships, and internally have no pantings in your heart; when your mind is like unto a straight-standing wall, you may enter into the path." ~Bodhidharma (470-543 A.D.)

"I JUST WANT TO BE ALONE!"

This is the first step. We must acknowledge that our salvation lies inside ourselves.

THE WORLD BRINGS SUFFERING

The journey down the path begins with a single step. Take that step.

LOOK INWARD

Once you are finally alone, look deep inside the contents of your being. Do everything you've always wanted to do. Write that novel. Clip your toenails. Scrape your uvula.

THE JOURNEY IS NOT EASY

Spiritual enlightenment is not without difficulty. It is only at the brink of self-destruction that you find clarity.

YOU'RE YOUR OWN BEST FRIEND

Just when you think you can't make it on your own, you will find all you need inside yourself and your own feelings: anger, fear, and ignorance.

OHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
