Michael Hawkey is Sling Media's Senior Vice President and General Manager and is responsible for driving Sling Media's retail and OEM businesses, overseeing strategy and tactical execution worldwide. Prior to Sling Media, Hawkey was Vice President of Sales and Marketing at EchoStar, leveraging more than 20 years of experience in the manufacturing, design, engineering, sales and marketing of semiconductors, software and digital video products.
Before joining EchoStar, Michael was Executive Vice President of ADB Americas, where his team built the first ADB set-top box for the US cable industry. At STMicroelectronics, Michael was the Managing Director Satellite Business Unit, Home Entertainment Group, overseeing the development of satellite hardware and software systems.
Michael's educational background includes a B.S. in Computer Engineering (Summa Cum Laude) from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana and Graduate Studies in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla.
In his spare time, Michael builds furniture, collects vinyl and old tube amps, and he's a die-hard hockey fan.
As Vice President of Engineering for Sling Media, Ilya Asnis is responsible for managing the engineering organization and ensuring that we build successful products. He originally joined Sling Media in 2006 as the Director of Embedded Software.
With over 15 years in engineering management and leadership roles, Ilya has expertise in the design, implementation, and optimization of video compression algorithms, streaming protocols, and video delivery systems. He also holds multiple patents in the area of compression and streaming.
Prior to joining Sling Media, Ilya was Director of Engineering for XVD Corporation and Director of Software Engineering at Digital Stream USA (formerly RightBits and Alaris), where he led the development of innovative hardware and software products based on proprietary compression technology. He was also the supervisor of the Information Processing Laboratory at the State University of Aerospace Instrumentation in St Petersburg, Russia, where he was responsible for developing video compression, error-correcting codes, and public-key cryptography.
Before becoming supervisor at the State University of Aerospace Instrumentation, Ilya was a Ph.D. candidate, and he received his M.S. in Computer Science there as well.
In 2012 Ilya was featured in the Multichannel News ’40 Under 40’ list of high-performing executives under the age of 40.
Ilya's hobby is complaining to friends about not having one.
Paddy Rao leads the Product Management group at Sling Media, and is responsible for the company's overall product strategy and roadmap, as well as product delivery. Prior to assuming this role, Paddy was responsible for launching and managing Sling Media's OEM product line.
Paddy came to Sling Media from Thomson (now Technicolor), where he was Vice President of the company's set-top box engineering organization, servicing pay TV operators on four continents. Before Thomson, Paddy was the CEO of Grundig Digital Systems, a Silicon Valley-based subsidiary of Grundig A.G. and Intel Capital. Grundig Digital Systems was subsequently acquired by Thomson. Paddy also held senior management roles at TV/COM and at Hyundai Electronics America. He started his career as a Staff Scientist at Compression Labs, one of the pioneering companies in the field of digital video compression.
Paddy has a Ph.D. in E.E. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, and a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi.
Jay’s organization is responsible for worldwide sales and business development initiatives for all Sling's products, as well as licensing of Sling technology. In addition to delivering revenue, Jay’s team is always looking to "do a deal" working with distribution and technology partners for Sling’s ecosystem of products including applications, hardware, IP, and cloud analytics.
Prior to joining Sling, Jay led several businesses as Vice President of Sales at Autodesk, the world's leading design software company. During his tenure at Autodesk, revenue grew from less than $1 billion to over $2 billion as he ran the sales organization for the Collaboration(SaaS), Manufacturing, and Channel businesses.
Before Autodesk, Jay served as Vice President of Sales at emerging SaaS technology companies Live Capital (acquired by Dunn Bradstreet), Redcart, and Encanto Networks (acquired by Lucent).
Jay also spent eight years at Motorola as Vice President of Sales for the Information Systems Group.
Quite the sports enthusiast, Jay uses his Slingbox to watch his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide whenever he can’t be in front of the big screen. He’s been known to yell "Roll Tide!" while watching games on his Slingbox from as far away as Amsterdam, Tokyo, and São Paulo.
Jay holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of Alabama.
Mark Vena is currently Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Sling Media, a division of EchoStar Corporation. Previously, Mark was Chief Marketing Officer at Segway Inc. where he led the launch of the company’s latest models of the company’s popular line of innovative self-balancing Personal Transportation devices and Segway’s SE Patroller, the company’s first Three Wheeler device designed exclusively for the private security and public safety markets.
As Senior Vice President/General Manager of Synaptics' Human Interface Systems Division, Mark managed the company’s highly profitable and market-share leading line of notebook TouchPad solutions.
Mark is a seasoned industry veteran and has a unique consumer and business technology vision that focuses on growth and innovation-oriented usage models. Before joining Synaptics in April 2007 as Vice President of Synaptics’ PC Business Unit, Mr. Vena was Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Alienware. Previously, Mr. Vena held senior business and product marketing management positions at industry leaders Dell, Compaq, Epson and IBM.
Mark is a graduate of Boston College and enjoys the theater and watching professional sports (with Sling, of course) during his leisure time.
As General Manager and head of Sling Media India, Vineet is responsible for design and development of various products being developed out of the Bangalore Technology Center. Vineet joined Sling Media in early 2007 and has been responsible for multiple product lines including Slingbox hardware, retail and OEM Slingplayer for Mobile Devices, and Sling functionality in the OEM range of products.
Prior to joining Sling Media, Vineet worked at Sasken Communication Technologies for 10 years, where he played multiple roles starting from development of soft DVD players and SoC design for HDTV decoders, to development of a variety of media players on multiple mobile phones deployed world-wide via various operators. Prior to joining Sasken, Vineet worked at the prestigious Space Application Centre (India's premier space research organization), where he started his career in 1994 and was part of the VSAT development team. He also holds patents in the area of multimedia streaming and dynamic adaptation of network bandwidth.
Vineet holds a Masters of Engineering and is passionate about everything he does in his career. Vineet loves traveling and Sling products ensure that he never misses his TV shows. He is truly in love with placeshifting products whenever he is shifting his place during travel.
